The all-new seven-passenger 2014 Acura MDX rides on a new, lighter platform for better fuel economy that also allows more room for third-row passengers. The formerly exclusive all-wheel-drive MDX now has a more efficient and less-expensive front-wheel-drive variant that pairs with a standard V-6 engine. The MDX competes with Buick's Enclave, the Lincoln MKT and BMW X5.
New for 2014Interior and exterior changes appear minimal, but the MDX is more aerodynamic and rides on an all-new chassis that's 275 pounds lighter, has a longer wheelbase and new rear suspension. A 3.5-liter V-6 adopts direct injection and combines with the reduced weight and improved aerodynamics to boost gas mileage. A new interior features simplified controls plus additional sound-deadening measures to quiet the interior.
ExteriorThe 2014 MDX's body uses more lightweight materials, including high-strength steel, aluminum and magnesium to reduce weight yet increase rigidity. Acura says the 2014's shape is refined to improve aerodynamic efficiency by 17 percent. Exterior features include:

InteriorThe wider wheelbase and more compact rear suspension creates additional room for third-row passengers as well as easier access from a wider entryway. The MDX has a sliding and reclining second row that moves forward with a one-touch walk-in feature activated from the second row or by passengers in the third row with their own button. Under the HoodA new 3.5-liter V-6 with direct injection makes 290-horsepower and includes cylinder deactivation to help gas mileage. For the first time a more efficient front-wheel-drive model is available in addition to Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive. The MDX's decreased weight not only helps gas mileage, but also vehicle dynamics, which are said to improve for 2014 with new shocks and tuning that helped knocked eight seconds off its track times at the famed Nurburgring racing circuit in Germany.
