Vehicle Overview

The midsize Audi A6 received a full redesign in 2012 and is available with either a turbocharged four-cylinder or supercharged six-cylinder engine. Both team up with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The high-performance Audi S6 model, whichmakes 420 horsepower from a twin-turbocharged V-8, is also available and is covered separately on Cars.com. The A6's competitors include the BMW 5 Series, Cadillac CTS, Jaguar XF and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, among others.

New for 2013

For 2013, A6 models equipped with the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine are now available with Quattro all-wheel drive.

Exterior

The front of the A6 bears a deeply plunging grille with complex headlight clusters. There are optional LED running lights. Exterior features include:

  • Available xenon or all-LED headlamps
  • 17-inch alloy wheels standard; 18-, 19- and 20-inch wheels optional
  • Power tilt/sliding sunroof
  • Available S line Sport Appearance Package
  • Standard fog lamps and dual exhaust
  • Power folding side mirrors

Standard leather seating surfaces are an advantage over some competitors, most notably BMW and Mercedes-Benz, which include vinyl seats in their base models. Interior features include:

  • Available MMI multimedia system with available Audi Connect telematics
  • Optional head-up display
  • Optional Bose or Bang & Olufsen stereo
  • Optional heated rear seats or ventilated front seats
  • Available four-zone climate control

Under the Hood

The A6 is powered by either a 310-hp, supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 or a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 211 hp. The eight-speed automatic transmission teams with both engines. The 2.0T A6 is available with either front- or Quattro all-wheel drive, while the 3.0T is available only with all-wheel drive.

Safety

The A6 comes with two front airbags, two front-seat-mounted side-impact airbags, two knee airbags, and two side curtain airbags. Rear-passenger side airbags are optional. Safety features include:

  • Antilock brakes with electronic stability control and traction control
