
Vehicle Overview
The Q7 was Audi’s first foray into the luxury crossover segment, but since its debut the automaker has added the Q5, a smaller and less expensive crossover. The Q7 seats up to seven people in three rows of seats and can be equipped with a gas or diesel V-6. The Q7 competes with the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GL-Class and Acura MDX.
New for 2012
The supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 that powers the Q7 3.0T gains eight horsepower and is now rated at 280 hp. A new S Line Plus Package for Prestige models features 21-inch titanium-finished wheels and matte black roof rails and window surrounds. Meanwhile, the optional navigation system adds Audi Connect capability that includes Google Earth map functionality and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
Exterior
For a crossover, the Q7 has a relatively sleek profile, and it wears Audi’s signature snout-like grille. Adaptive xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights with LED daytime running lights and a panoramic sunroof are optional. Exterior features include:
- Standard power liftgate
- 18-, 19-, 20- or 21-inch wheels
Interior
The Q7’s rear rows of seats fold flat to provide additional storage space. Audi’s optional Multi Media Interface information and navigation system features enhanced voice activation, so you can speak commands such as “I need gas” or “I need coffee,” and the computer will map your closest options. Interior features include:

- Optional Bang & Olufsen stereo
- Optional heated steering wheel
Under the Hood
The Q7’s powertrain lineup includes two supercharged gasoline V-6s and a turbocharged diesel V-6, all of which team with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Mechanical features include:
- 280-hp, supercharged 3.0-liter gas V-6 in 3.0T
- 333-hp, supercharged 3.0-liter gas V-6 in 3.0T S line
- 225-hp, turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel V-6 in TDI makes 406 pounds-feet of torque
- Standard Quattro all-wheel drive
- Optional adaptive air suspension
- 6,600-pound maximum towing capacity
Safety
The Q7 has standard side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags for all three rows and an electronic stability system. Safety features include:

- Optional backup camera
- Optional second-row side-impact airbags
