"I bought this car when it was 18 years old with over 200,000 miles on it. It's really hard to give a rating like this to a used car with so many miles on it. First off, I'd say that the car has held up great. I am the third owner. Most of the parts on the car are original. Convertible top: Some stitching has started to wear (nothing has come apart. Just some wear on the stitches) Back window has a crease line from being used, but is not all foggy like most other convertibles with plastic rear windows. Vinyl seats are in perfect shape. No cracking, stiffness etc. Interior design is very comfortable. There is a weak point to the interior, which is the door panels. They tend to become separated and rattle a bit over time. They are repairable fairly easily. Interior styling is very nice. Only drawback to the design is lack of decent cup holders. Paint has held up great. No problems with clear coat etc. Very nice shine to the paint. Also, the body of the car seems to be very high quality build and design. There are no waves to the body or deformities. Closing the hood, trunk or door and it's just nice and solid. Even gaps all around the body panels. No sag. Drivetrain: With over 200,000 miles, there is still no smoke from the engine. No oil consumption. No noise from the transmission or differential. Smooth as glass. The 1.8 is not going to win any drag races, but the engine comes alive after 4,000 RPM. It just wants to drive. Handling: At one point I had a Porsche 914. Small mid engine car.. Handled great. I'd put this 4 seater, rear wheel drive in the same class. Remarkable handling. When looking for one of these cars, check service records. If the car has been kept up, it will last a very long time. Not just a reflection of my car, but know others who own BMWs with very little problems."

"My 1994 BMW 318ic is an overall wonderful car. It has 160,000 miles now and it still starts right up and runs wonderfully. It has no problems ever which is great! The handling is like you wouldn't believe. The balance is perfect, the steering is very responsive, the brakes are nice and tight, and the transmission is still buttery smooth. The gas mileage is great, 40 MPGs HIGHWAY!!! It gets about 20 MPGs city average. This car does great on gas. I only run mine on premium 93 octane fuel because the manual says premium fuel only. This car's features are great. The interior is nice, quiet, and cozy. It's a little too small though, but it's still comfortable. Keep up with the services and this car will run forever! My one complaint is that the 1.8 liter engine is slightly underpowered, but with the transmission in the sport mode it's not too bad. Overall, I love my BMW!"

"The E36 318i is a very nice car. The handling is the best part. It feels very solid and like it is on rails. It is very fun to drive. I can get 35mpg also. What other rear wheel drive car gives you that fuel economy? This car is also very reliable. I have had no major problems with it. I would definetly reccommend this car to anyone. Do your self a favor and get the manual transmission, it is way more fun."
