"As a newbie to the bimmer world i say hello to all. I brought my 2008 535xi (Anniversary gift from the Wife) 36 hours ago and i love it. Its not the most lush car around but it has enough gadgets and buttons for most. good enough for me. that said this car so far has passed all of my expectations. The iDrive system isnt overly complicated it just needs a little patience to master. I looked for the AWD because I live in the NE. 300hp needs that in the snow. The pure thrill and throttle response when passing any car cannot be put to words. The handling, and minimal body lean puts my mind into F1 status. Plenty of creature comforts, but this car wants a driver who can put it through its paces on every highway and street. 36 hours and more to come. .. .... .........."

"Fantastic ride, power and beauty but please do something with the idrive, and the shifter. Both are a waste of time. My 2002 530i had it all going for it. I do love my 2008."

"Car is great, love the performance and the look of the car. It is definitely a rougher ride due to the sport package. I love driving it. One major issue is the transmission. There is apparently a very common issue with the sport transmission. When at a stop, the transmission will take itself out of gear and go into neutral. There is no indication of this until you take your foot off the brake. Once you press the gas peddle, the car will then slam into gear. It does not happen all the time but often enough that it is extremely bothersome. My car is a CPO car but since the dealer is unable to replicate the issue, they say that they are unable to fix it. Because of this, I do not recommend the car. To be truly informed before buying a car, read the online forums and see what issues other owners are having. Good luck with your search!"

"My 2008 535 has been in the shop at least 4 times to deal with the recall--and just recently to replace the high pressured fuel pump since I was stranded on the freeway with "engine malfunction" light and I got stuck on the shoulder for a moment. The fuel pump was replaced two years ago, and now another more effective, so they say, pump was put in. This also follows-up the problem from 3 years ago. Now that the warranty is over, at 54,000 miles, I have to deal with all the expenses of maintenance, but if it deals with the recall "engine malfunction" I don't know how reliable it will be in the future. I love the drive of the 535, don't get me wrong, but I don't like the uncertainty of getting stuck on the side of the freeway with that light: engine malfunction."

"This is my 3rd. BMW. Drove 740 and 745 before. My first time behind the wheel of this 2008 535 was a revelation! I now have put about 16k miles driving and everything I felt the first time has been reinforced. The most striking feature about this car is how much more confident you feel driving, the handling is SUPERB! I have the sports package which may help but the car feels like a part of your body, predictable and poised., I have a pretty stressful job and at the end of the day I will look for a longer route home, this is better and probably safer than Valium. The car may not have all the toys of a Lexus, but for me the driving experience trumps cup holders. The engine is terrific with steptronic option the acceleration is WOW! It has all the power of my previous 745 without the bulk. It feels much lighter and manueverable, just the right size for a 5 seater. Driving position is almost infinitely adjustable, I have found my perfect seating position, you feel wrapped up in a very supportive seat. Heads up display is not a gimmick, it allows you to maintain eyes on the road, all the important info projects on the windshield. Interior, fit and finish, rear seat room no complaints. The only downside is the price and cost of all the options, but that point becomes almost irrelevant when you put the minivan away after a family trip and get back behind the wheel of this car."

"This is "the BMW". 535xi I have only driven BMW since 1989 and have had 3's and 5's. This is the best of the best. I driven over a dozen differnt BMWs over the years this car is the top of the crop! Handling un-real! Power out of this world! Comfort and service undeniable! Truly like a suit that fits."
