Consumer Reviews
"So far, this car is living up to my expectations. My last vehicle was a Jeep Liberty, and there is no comparison with ride comfort and gas mileage. Only problem so far was vehicle was transported from California to North Dakota, and arrived on the transport truck with a dead and defunct battery. When they recommend a battery maintainer for colder climates, they mean it! My only other quibble is the "special cable" required to hook up and operate your iPod through the stereo. Come on BMW, get over yourself, and don't require every last little detail to require a BMW-only part!"

"We got our 3.0xd last week and took it for a drive in Germany. The engine is flawless, silent and very powerful. I like also the start-stop system(stops the engine when you stay in traffic), the modern satnav, the topview camera(3 cameras are uses to generate a view as from above the car) making manoeuvring in tight spots very safe. My only complain will be with the dashboard(being used with the one in my Jaguar S-Type). I think it doesn't look nice, it's overcomplicated, and at least the climate controls could have been better. I don't like too much the i-drive too, but I got use with it. Anyway, there would have been the same problems with the Audi Q5(even uglier dashboard) and Mercedes GLK(the GLK is uglier outside too). But overall, this is the best small SUV money can buy, IMHO."

"I ordered my X3 28 to get it the way I wanted it for the price I wanted. I am getting over 23mpg in the city (lots of hills). On a recent 2,500 mile road trip with 5 people and lots of bags I averaged better than 27mpg driving 80 mph. Not happy with the slight hesitation you sometimes get on accelerating from a stoplight but it's not a big annoyance. Once you get used to the ConnectedDrive it's a good system. I like the USB interface, I keep all of my music on a flash drive now and no longer have to drag CD's along. I can't wait for snow to fall to see how it handles on our mountain roads."

"Owned many Jags before, and did not like the new styling. I am very glad I switched. Incredible power and handling."

"A total joy to own. I will be keeping this car for many years. It's a perfect size and so comfortable. So far, I can't find anything to change except the size of the gas tank."

"Great styling and performance. Very nice ride and reasonable MPG. Overly complicated controls. Complexity of iDrive and too many features requires a tech savvy driver.Very poorly written owner manual makes things worse. Dealer had to reboot entire car software. Pricey. But...great fun and looks good."

"VWs are known to be notoriously fickle: you never know if you can get there without your VW breaking down on you. But BMW is a synonym of reliability and performance. Or is it? I went through 2 radiators in 70K miles, one with the rest of the heating system, the other by itself. Overall reliability is far below expectations. I went to Canada in Jan., it was -20overnight, the windshield cracked (the car was parked, not driven). Warning lights come up and go, you'll never know what happened. Front seats are comfortable, heated, adjust well to your needs. Back seats not so comfortable. Some plastic pieces inside look cheap, do not maintain looks. Gas mileage: 22-23 highway (can't get the advertised 25). Costly to maintain (premium gas, BMW synthetic oil, even go to Jiffy Lube, you still need to go to dealer to reset your computer and pay extra). Can't get parts from chain suppliers, BMW does not work with them. Driving is a pleasure. Nimble start even with 4cyl engine. Lots of extras: side lights come up if you turn at low speed, heated steering wheel."

"Traded in 2006 X-5. New X-5 too large. 2011 X-3 perfect size and great in every way. All New suspension and steering, along with X-drive add to the excellent handling characteristics."

"Just bought the new X3 a few weeks ago loaded. This vehicle is loaded with new technology, office function allows you the play emails. Heads up display is a must. Would highly recommend it. We also have a 335 convertible and a M6, but we love the X3 35."

"What are you gonna do??? You want a 300hp sports car that bangs off shifts like a Mitsibishi Evo, but you have kids, dogs, need all weather capabilities, AND the ability to tow smaller loads. Impossible you say? Enter the 2011 X3.... This thing is fast as can be ( I bought the 3.5 version) has a very spacious interior with lots of glass and great sight lines, a much improved. simpler IDrive system, and will still crack 20 mpg combined if driven reasonably. Took a long highway trip and saw 24.5 mpg; not bad given the mass and speed capabilities. The adjustable suspension and drivetrain are great fun, and the shifts in manual mode are lightning quick, best I've ever experienced. CONS: Ride is quite firm even in normal mode. Couple of electronic things seem over designed and complicated. More of a utilitarian feel to the interior rather than luxurious. Steeply priced when heavily optioned. Overall, if you need one vehicle to do almost anything, put it on your list."
