Vehicle Overview

Buick marks the end of this century with a special edition of its own Century, a front-wheel-drive sedan. All models have more power this year thanks to improvements to the standard V-6 engine, and versions with leather upholstery gain a seat-mounted side-impact airbag for the driver.

Century is built from the same design as the Buick Regal but assumes a more conservative stance aimed at an older audience.

Exterior
Though Century's styling is similar to the Regal's, a different grille, rear-end features, trim and wheels give it a unique appearance at first glance. Both ride a 109-inch wheelbase and come in four-door body styles.

The Century 2000 special edition wears a blacked-out grille, body-color fascias and side moldings, and machined aluminum wheels to set it apart from the Custom and Limited models.

Interior
Only bench seats separate the six-passenger Century from the sportier Regal, which has front bucket seats. All models come with a three-place front bench seat featuring a folding, center storage armrest. Leather upholstery is standard on the Limited and optional on the Century 2000 special edition.

Under the Hood
Horsepower on the standard 3.1-liter V-6 jumps from 160 to 175 from internal changes, new intake and exhaust manifolds and revised electronic controls. The EPA's fuel economy estimate for highway driving increases 1 mpg to 30; the city estimate is unchanged at 20.

Safety
In addition to the federally required dual front airbags, Century also comes with standard anti-lock brakes and traction control. The new side-impact airbag for the driver's seat is included with leather upholstery (standard on the Limited and optional on the special edition).
