Vehicle Overview

The Buick Verano was a new compact sedan for 2012 that features familiar Buick styling cues including a chrome waterfall grille, blue-tinted projector-beam headlights and porthole appliques on the hood. It seats up to five people and competes with the Acura ILX.

New for 2013

A new Verano Turbo debuts in late 2012 powered by a 250-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that pairs with a standard six-speed automatic transmission or an optional six-speed manual. Styling cues include dual exhaust outlets and a rear spoiler.

Buick's IntelliLink system, which uses Bluetooth or the USB port to pair a smartphone to the touch-screen stereo and stream music from Pandora Internet Radio or Stitcher SmartRadio, is now standard. A backup camera is also newly standard.

Exterior

Exterior features include:

  • 18- inch wheels
  • Daytime running lights
  • Automatic headlights

Interior

Inside, upscale appointments include soft-touch trim, ambient lighting and a woven headliner that's designed to make the cabin quieter. Additional sound-deadening measures include acoustical laminated glass and triple-sealed doors. Interior features include:

  • Available push-button start and remote start
  • Automatic air conditioning
  • 14.3-cubic-foot trunk

Under the Hood

Power comes from a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 180 hp. The newly available turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 250 hp. Mechanical features include:

  • Front-wheel drive
  • Both engines feature direct injection
  • Base four-cylinder works with six-speed automatic transmission, uses regular gas or E85
  • Available turbo four-cylinder works with a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual and premium gas is recommended, though not required

Safety:

Standard safety features include:

  • Front and rear side-impact airbags
  • Side curtain airbags and knee airbags
  • All-disc antilock brakes
