(Skip to details on: the Camaro Z/28)
The 2014 Camaro Z/28 is a dedicated street-legal track car with significant measures to reduce its weight and increase its track prowess. Under the hood is a new 7.0-liter V-8 that makes approximately 500 horsepower and is borrowed from the track-capable 2013 Corvette Z06. Chevrolet says it has taken 3 seconds off the Z/28's lap times compared to the supercharged Camaro ZL1 in initial testing.
The Z/28 is 300 pounds lighter than the already track-focused supercharged ZL1 Camaro thanks to extensive weight-removing measures. All the speakers except one are gone, air conditioning is optional, and sound insulation and carpeting from the trunk have been deleted; there's also a lighter battery and the glass is thinner.
Under the Z/28 is a new suspension that Chevrolet says is one of the first in a production car to use four-way adjustable shocks for tuning high- and low-speed shock adjustments. Stopping the Z/28 are lightweight carbon ceramic brakes fitted to 19-inch lightweight forged aluminum wheels. Complementing the mechanical additions is an aerodynamic package for increased aero downforce with a large front splitter, extended rocker panels, rear spoiler and rear diffuser. Back to top
