"I bought this car for the gas mileage and the cargo space. I was a sales rep at the time and needed something gas affordable and had a place to keep merchandise that I sometimes had to take to customers. This worked perfectly. There is a lot more space than appears. I have a 2006 LT model. It now has 65,000 miles and have had nothing go wrong with the car since I bought it new. I am sad to learn they are not making these cars anymore which is a shame. I would have bought another one once this one gave out. Which appears it isn't going to do anytime soon. Great car, fun retro look. Highly reccomend. There has to be something bad right? Only thing is it takes some getting used to as far as sight lines. There is some blind spots."

"Recently purchased 06 HHR, great little commuter & small job service vehicle. Panel wagons were higher priced than my loaded LT wagon. With seats folded down, plenty of storage & carrying space for my service techs. Almost 30MPG overall & very easy to drive. I'm 6'2''+ & fit to drive quite comfortably. Extremely pleased w/ the HHR. Sister is looking for one now & I'll definitely purchase another one."

"I have driven many cars from a nice standard Toyota truck, to a mini foreign car I learned how to drive on ice in.( Thanks to my brother.) I have found that the HHR 2.0 liter vehicle is great for maneuverability. I love the feature of the multiple lighter ports throughout the car. The CD player leaves you wanting, but the AUX IN port takes care of that just as long as you have an mp3 player. As for the reliability, I caution you check you coil packs for they like to go, especially when you drive in town frequently."

"Considering the price of this car, it runs nice and smooth. I didn't have any problem with HHR even though I bought third handed. Definitely recommend for those who look for considerably cheap but reliable!!"

2006 Chevy HHR Succeeds

"I bought a 2006 HHR in Aug. of 2006. It was an LT with a 2.4 L engine. I put 25K miles a year on it and cannot complain. I now have 130K on it and have only had one repair, a hole in a bend in the exhaust-$168 fixed it. I tuned it at 100k and have done all the other services. I drive 84 miles a day and they are hard miles on a freeway moving between 40 and 80 MPH. One thing I did do was to use synthetic oil at every oil change. My engine runs like new and starts on the first turn, even at 130k miles. It would be cool to have a new car, but i have trouble justifying it. Even this car's interior has held up well. The driver's seat does not look used. That's amazing. No wear marks or holes. The car has held up well. This chevy product has served me well. Yeah, i was surprised. It was really well made. Seats are okay, it is no cadillac. Ride is bit rough but it is an economy car. Cheap up keep, tho."

"Bought vehicle new in 06 and have 145000 miles on it with no problems, still have the original battery in it. Get an average of 30 mpg. Only issues were the rotors which I went and bought some after markets and it fixed the problem. Friend of mine purchased an 08 and has had no problems as well. Good car for the money"

2006 HHR...worst car ever!

"I purchased the 2006 HHR hoping to get reliability equal to my Japanese cars.....NO WAY! This car disintegrates with use. I have 60,000 miles on it and have replaced the brakes several times, the rotors too. Also the radiator, control arm bushings, and the links. Now I need new struts and brackets...LOADS of money to repair. Ergonomically it is awful and uncomfortable to ride in. The dials and window buttons are poorly placed. It just is a huge disappointment. DON'T BUY THIS CAR. Back to Nissan, Honda and Toyota!!"

Sharp looking... ...but with chronic problems!

"I really enjoyed this car... ...for about the first 2 weeks! Then, the headache started!!! Back and forth to repair shop, dealer didn't even want to honor warranty at first. Been fixing something on this car every other month, mostly the same recurring issues. On the good side, this car looks very sharp and gives you a nice smooth ride and good handling. If you need cargo room, this one sure provides a good amount of it. On the bad side, it has chronic problems front brakes, front suspension, intake and exhaust cam solenoids, topped by the worst chronic problem: Chevy's EXTREMELY POOR customer service! Only reason I gave 2 stars for reliability and not only 1 is that it never left me stranded despite the chronic issues I was fighting with. The value for the money would actually be a 5, if it wasn't for the chronic problems. I rated the performance with a 3 because of the relatively poor gas mileage. The 2.4l is very perky but only averaged about 21mpg in a mix of suburban street and highway traffic. I had better gas mileage with a Town&Country I previously owned... Do your research and you'll find many other chronic issues being reported by frustrated owners."

Pay $300+ To Replace an Inside Door Handle

"I am VERY, VERY unhappy with GM for this design "flaw". I had the car 1 1/2 yrs; I drive a lot. However, I simply opened my driver-side door one day recently and the door handle inside just broke off. Just like that. I used no undue force, simply opened the door as I usually do. When I checked into repairing this I was first quoted $600 for the part. You see, b/c of the way the door is designed, the entire inside door panel must be replaced; the little door handle cannot be replaced by itself. I went to the dealer where I bought the car and the parts dept. quoted me bottom-line $278 for the part. Quite a bit better than $600, but still absolutely OUTRAGEOUS when I only need the door handle. Can you imagine paying $300+ to simply replace a little door handle? I cannot; I am burned up. GM refused to help me b/c the car is out of warranty and it is not a "known problem". However, a quick google search for "2006 HHR inside door handle" will show plenty of folks who have encountered the same problem. I told GM that I would let EVERYONE know what a rip-off this is!! So now you know. I might otherwise be happy with the car, but the contacts to both remotes have broken, and the brake rotors are warped. This car has shimmied like crazy since soon after I bought it. Beware!! I'm sure GM really doesnt' give a rip, but I told them that I would make this as public as I can!! Forward this to everyone you know!!"
