Consumer Reviews
"I'm in the process of finally getting rid of my Impala LS V6 2003. The first two years were wondeful, the last two years and $3000 later and I can't wait to sell this vehicle. You name it , it has been replaced. It took three tries before the DMV finally gave up and passed the car for emission testing;with a waiver. Sadly disappointed. However the good points- I really enjoy the ride, very comfortable and I thought it handles pretty good in the winter. This car will nickle and dime you to death."

"Our car was purchased new and now has 130k miles on it. It still gets good mileage. Recently, the 'traction active' light has started coming on when it shouldn't. Sometimes it will turn off right away, sometimes it will stay on longer and actually cause the ABS and traction control to shut down. The warning lights on the dash give me a message. I called a shop and they said it could be a bad wire or something minor...or it could need a new hubs. For now, we are not repairing it...playing it by ear. The car has also started having trouble with the ignition switch. The antitheft thinks someone is trying to steal the car. My '98 Malibu had the same problem. The solution is to turn the car on for 10 minutes, then take the key out, put it back in, and try to start....repeat until it starts. The security light may or may not flash when this is happening and it gives the impression that the battery is very dead. This problem is very intermittent and therefore difficult to resolve. I would still buy this car again. It is still very solid and has little if any rust. We want to buy a new vehicle this winter, so putting new tires (min. $400) and another $500 in repairs for the other problems problem isn't going to happen. I would consider a new Impala if we didn't need more space."

"I have been very satisfied with my '03 Impala. It has an A-List of features, gets about 30 MPG (HWY) and has plenty of power for my needs. I can see me owning this car for awhile to take care of my daily commuting needs."

"I have been driving my 2003 impala for 5 years now. I bought it used and it had warranty for 100000 miles. Overall I am happy with it, but if you want something more stylish or luxury, this car is not for you. I has good gas milage, I think. I drive it to work and back ( altogether 64 mi 5 days a week. I have to fill it up once a week, but if I were to drive it on the weekend I will have to fill it up more. It is very spaceous inside, I have compared it to VW Passat. Goood value for the money, definetely"

"I got my Impala in December of 09 and it had 124,000 mi on it. Its a 3.8 litre V6 LS. I thought it was a lot of miles for an 03, even if they are mostly highway miles. It rides smooth and still has a little pep in the step. And other than changing the fluids, replacing a window motor, and changing the brake pads it hasnt given me much hastle. 129,000 mi and still running as if it were 29,000 miles in. Great car."

"We bought our LS model used in May 08 to replace our CR-V which had developed engine problems. So far it has been extremely good to us--good gas mileage, very smooth ride, and comfortable. My wife likes the heated leather seats and I like the performance of the 3.8 V-6. The only issues we have had is that the ABS went out at 75,000 and it goes through tires pretty good. My minor complaint: no light in the spacious trunk!"

"Our 2003 Impala LS now has around 115k miles on it. It continues to be very reliable for us. Still getting good gas mileage. We did have to have some work done on one of the front wheels last year--maybe something to do with the bearings--but the repairs were not that expensive. Our 3.8L has, to date, had no engine issues that some of the others reviewers have mentioned. I would buy this car again in a heart beat--and so would my wife. Definitely prefer it to my '06 Grand Prix. Much more comfortable riding and it gets better MPG."

"I drive the base with the 3.8 litre 6. Bought it used in 2004 when it had 25K miles. 18 months later, after highway driving, I had to replace the tranny @ 79K. It is functional as a sales car and as comfortable it can be for a big guy like me. Consistent issue: front rotors warping. Replaced cooling fans (the whole assembly!) There's 186,000 miles on the car and yes, it is reliable despite the demons. Fuel econ averages <> 22 mpg..."

"I purchased this vehichle brand new in 2003. To date (Jan. 2008) I have had the car in the shop 4 times. Intake manifold gasket repair, multiple valves needing replaced, coolant/oil needing flushed due to the intake manifold failure. This should not be happening on a vehichle at only 85,000 miles. Intak manifold gaskets, I have read, are a major concern in cheverolet vehichles. My family will never purchase another chev. vehichle again."

"Our 2003 Impala LS is going on 4 years of service and has around 70k miles on it. I have changed the oil on it every 5k miles. We have had no problems with it. The salesman told us before we bought it we would we get 30 MPG on the highway. I didn't really believe him, until we drove to Florida and did get 30 MPG. It also does pretty good around the city. The only problem we have is that there is no child safety locks on the back doors--they are controlled through the radio...which makes no sense to this parent of two. The original sticker was high, but because of a variety of discounts, the vehicle became a very good value compared to a comparably equipped import. I wish GM built more vehicles like this one...but in the USA."
