"This was the first car ive owned. I got the car about 2 years ago, i have the LT model with the 3.5 V6, im 19, i removed some of the badges from the car to make it look more like an undercover police car, stuck some antennas on the trunk hood. The car itself is moderately reliable, i drive roughly 300 miles within 3 days, alot of highway miles, the car i do tend to beat on, it is quick and can get going, but overall i never felt the car was worth it, if the car was RWD it would make it that much better, I have packed the car with more friends than seats and the only issue was brake fade, ive had an amount of work done on the car, A/C accuators replaced, wheel bearings replaces, battery negative boot replaced, water pump replaced, speakers replaces, my transmission is starting to go. The car is decent but I would never buy another one, definitly looking at new cars because i want to simply get rid of mine. gas mileage is below decent regardless of how you drive it. It was alright while it lasted"

"I have to add to my review, see below for "save for something better" I have the 3.9 liter engine and it consumes 1 qt of oil every 1000 miles. it does not blow smoke but it consumes the oil, this is a known problem with this car, google it and read about how many people have the problem, GM will not stand behind this one, the dealer will make you do a consumption test which consists of YOU checking your oil at every gas fill up and marking it on a chart for several WEEKS, then after YOU do all of the work they tell you its normal, ? normal for a car with 50K miles to cosume 1qt of oil ever 1000 miles, really GM? really? nevr going to buy GM again. and to think I wanted to try a GM product after years of trouble free miles from HONDA ..."

"I bought this car with 42,000 miles on it and almost instantly had to have it serviced due to a recall on the power steering pump. This wasn't a big problem, since then it has been very reliable and fun to drive, I have the 3.9 litre which is giving me 31+ highway, and when I can get on long stretches of city roads that are 30mph I can put on the cruise on and get about 40mpg. I really like this car, it has a great sound system stock and is overall great. The only bad things are the seats aren't that comfortable, and there are no cup holders in the back. These are very easy to get around though I would absolutely recommend this car to someone, I love my impala and hope to have it a long long time."

"I've had my 06 Impala for a few months now and I am just not pleased with it. For a full size car it is small inside, the doors are small and makes it hard to get in and out of. the back seat is hardly enough room for my 6 and 8 year olds because I have my seat far back to be comfortable. the trunk opening is small, the 3.9 liter engine sucks up gas as bad as an 8 cylinder, sometimes when I start it it sounds like the starter is still running, I'm getting 23 mpg combination hiway and round town. I bought it because it was cheap and my van was dying, I should have saved for something better. although I seem to hate it, it does get me to work everyday and the remote starter is a nice feature, the radio is also nice with the XM radio and updated bose speakers, other than that save for something better, there seems to be alot of them for sale, dont pay too much for them as they dont hold any value at all."

"Awesome value and well worth upgrading to the V-8! This car is so comfortable to drive and handles well in all conditions. I have been a fan of the SS forever and usually will only buy these models. No problems to date and hope to remain problem free."

Stuck with a piece of junk

"I purchased this car in Oct 2005 new. It now only has 39000 miles. I had the head gasket fixed at 22000 miles. Now I just got the low oil pressure sensor fixed. I have some front end work that needs to be handled, something with the steering and rack pinion boot. Also the car jerks sometimes. When I take it to the dealership they say they can't duplicate the issue or find anything. This car is definitely not worth the $$ they are charging for it. Chevy needs to go really take a look at this car and correct all of the issues. It is hard times people don't have money to buy a new car because they purchased a piece of junk or keep fixing issues."

"I was crazy about the 96 SS but now I realize everywhere I go in my 06 SS people just look and stare, I stare back and sometimes wave, and the people who are not jealous will tell you that your car looks good. I am enjoying it and I am sure that you would too....Maybe not the gas mileage, but what do you expect with a powerful car like this, everything else is well appreciated."
