"4 cyl eng runs good, plenty of power with 1-2 people problems occur with switch logic circuit boards, window sw assy drivers side, sw's for all windows, $95 to replace. a/c switch module assy had been replaced under warrantee. now turn signal sw circ board intermittanly fails about $120 for that part. later models have more reliable circuits"

"The computer tells you everything you need to know about gas and oil life and 2 trip odometers make sure you can compute your milage correctly. The faux beige convertible top makes a nice unusual touch along with the ruby red bottom."

"I was not a car-lover when I bought my Malibu, having driven 4 wheel drive vehicles for years. But with rising gas prices, it was more economical to park my gas guzzling SUV and look for a decent car. After several weeks of car shopping and test driving too-small and uncomfortable imports, I hopped into the Malibu and was immediately convinced that it was the car for me; it just clicked. I have been driving my 2005 Malibu for 4 years now and still love it as much as the day I bought it. It has the 4-cylinder engine, which makes decent gas mileage and has the pep needed to get going in traffic and pass up the slow lane. On a recent 1200 mile trip, it was making 50mpg at one point! Overall it makes between 32 and 38 on the highway, and I have noticed that paying for premium gas is definitely worth it in this car as it adds to the mpg. It is very comfortable to drive, handles great, and is very reliable. Nothing on this car in 4 years and 45,000 miles except tires, and regular maintenance, which adds immensely to the cost savings of driving a Malibu. The interior is comfortable and roomy enough for a tall person such as myself, even with the seat raised to it's highest position. The only thing I would change about this car is adding more storage space for cell phone, or other small items. I would highly recommend this car to anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable car without paying an arm and a leg. My next car will definitely be another Malibu!"

Remarkable Malibu

"This is a truly remarkable car. I did not want to buy this car, but I needed a car and price was important. This one had only 9700 and change on it when I bought it, and it has almost 98000 now. The 2005's had a problem with the steering midshaft. The dealer replaced that for free at 38,000. The emergency brake cable snapped one day in a parking lot. That was a free repair, too. Other than that, tires, regular maintenance, and a tie rod end. And, a quirky problem with turn signal light bulb sockets that cropped up but was an easy fix. NOW THE GOOD STUFF. While this car is a bit dull to look at, its a blast to drive. POWERFUL V-6 gets a real 32-34 on the highway if you don't drive way fast. Just keep the tires properly inflated or the mileage drops, but only to around 28-30. And when you put the pedal down, it scoots. Mine has the sport shift automatic, with the gears controlled by a button at the driver's thumb. Boom, boom, boom through the gears. Smooth. And while some reviews have criticized the electric power steering, I have found it precise....this car is agile...far more than any other midsize I tried back when I bought it. I drive alot in my work and have really put this car through alot...snow, rain, fog, rough roads, and mile after mile it keeps on going. Once we got the early bugs ironed out it has been a lot of fun. The thing that does bug me a bit is that the hinges on the mirror covers on the sun visors both broke about 80-90 thousand miles. But, for the turn the key and go reliability and the POWER of that V-6 with great highway mileage, how can you go wrong. So, I can recommend this car...so long as you are willing to work out the bugs at the beginning, you'll have a blast."
