Consumer Reviews
"Cute little car. Comfortable for two upfront with no one in the back. Leg room is non-existence in the back so if your carrying a full load, it?s going to be beyond cramped. My sonic LT manual six-speed creates a go-cart type feeling making it hard to watch your speed without keeping your eyes on the speedometer. Frankly, you?re going faster than you think, keep that in mind!"

"We looked at a couple of import type cars, 4 doors and turbos. Couldn't find the exact car we wanted in stock anywhere in the country, so started looking elsewhere. My wife looked at several cars on line and she decided she liked the Chevrolet Sonic LTZ. The next problem was she wanted a manual transmission and we wanted the turbo. so our dealer had to do a dealer search and found ours about 175 miles away and went and got it. The car has been surprisingly nice to drive in town and on a 250 mile one way trip. wWe've got about 2500 miles on the Sonic now and average about 33-34 miles per gallon, in town or on the interstate. The 1.4 turbo seems a little short of power on steep hills. Also with the 6 speed manual transmission, the 6th gear is mostly for interstate driving, not around town. we live in Tennessee, so lots of hills. Overall, great little car and we are both in our 60's , and trade every 11/2 -2 years and have had lots of new cars over the years, this car is great."

"Just bought the Sonic with the 1.4l turbo engine. What a fun car to drive. The turbo more than makes up for the small displacement engine. It is quick off the line, even with the little bit of turbo lag and the steering is quick and precise. The six-speed manual transmission is smooth and forgiving and the clutch throw is a comfortable distance. The ride is surprisingly smooth even though the car handles like it has a sport suspension. My biggist problem is keeping it down to the legal speed limit. This little car really wants to fly."

"Fun car to drive and easy to operate much better with a 5 speed manual transmission. Power when you need it. A/C is awesome cold. Salesperson was very helpful and enjoyable to work with and made the purchase easy."

"In the mid 80's I bought my first new car after owning a 1972 chevy pickup for my college vehicle. That truck got 9mpg. After saving my money I was able to purchase a new vehicle. It was a Honda CRX. I can say that that was the best car I have ever owned til now. I have owned almost 20 new vehicles in the years since. After looking at and driving the competition and deliberating for a month we chose a Sonic LTZ Turbo. Had to order it and wait 8 weeks. Glad we got the one we wanted. I cant say enough good things about this car. We still own an 06 Toyota Sienna but my wife drives this car so much we might get rid of it too. We are averaging 35mpg in in town driving and when we go on the road it is averaging around 40. Been a very hot summer here and the A/C seems to really affect how much fuel it uses. We bought it to go on road trips for kids sports. But use it almost exclusively because of the mileage. I am not a small man (6'2" and 250) and i have all the room I need. There are 4 of us in the family. 2 teenagers. They love the car as well. I say well done GM. The features of this car and the price make it a great deal. It is a ball to drive!!!"

"I've had a LTZ with turbo and manual tranny for a week now as my new commuter. I just filled my tank for the first time and it's averaging 47 MPG (9.6 gallons in 460 miles), which is far better than I had expected or what it's rated for. It has adequate power - nothing great, but not bad, either - probably more than one would expect from a car in this class. Interior-wise, it has ample legroom, the bluetooth works really really well, and the handsfree sounds like I'm using an earbud. It handles nicely, is very quiet and isn't too spongy or taut a suspension. Cons: It does look a bit like an angry kitchen appliance. It doesn't just use the address book on your iPhone, rather, you have to put in voice tags. The passenger seat should have an armrest. A lot of gears to shift through with a really, really tall 6th gear and a too low 1st gear. It'd be nice if US manufacturers would adapt small, efficient diesel options so we could have more torque. Also, better options for mounting "toys" like hardpoints on the roof for a roofrack that doesn't touch the finish. I ended up with a trailer hitch to carry my mountain bike on a hitch-mounted rack. Overall though, this gets 5 stars. Chevy did well designing a nice, little car that performs very well."

"I picked an LT Coupe with manual turbo transmission. It has great pick-up when I get on the highway and the gas mileage is awesome! There is plenty of legroom when I have passengers (front & back seats) plus the storage in the back is great. This car has lots of extras at a great price! I enjoy driving the Sonic and think it was a great choice for me!"

"The 2012 Chevy Sonic is an excellent car. I own the 1.4 liter turbo 2LT model and I am highly satisfied with everything about the vehicle."

"I purchased my manual trans. LTZ hatchback in March. I put 700 miles on it every week. Love the fuel econ. It is fun to drive, but I regret not getting the Turbo. It doesn't get up to spead on the highway as the automatic trans. did with the same size engine. Also, the clutch has a loud clicking noise. The service dept. was quick to order new one. Unfortunately, all 3 pedals had to be replaced (kit) and the steering column had to be removed to replace them. After all that the new pedal does the exact same thing! Don't bother to get it replaced. It does'nt effect the clutch, it's just annoying. Interior: The front seats are quit narrow, may not be comfortable to some. The finish on the dashboard equipment is already wearing off and scratches easily when wiping clean. If I had not over paid for this vehicle by several thousands, These things probably wouldn't bother me. Still , I would recommend at the right price."
