The current generation of the Chevrolet Suburban full-size SUV is entering its final model year, so the offerings have been trimmed to regular-duty 1500 models available with a choice of rear- or four-wheel drive. The heavy-duty 2500 version and the 6.0-liter V-8 that powered it are available to fleet buyers and custom outfitters. New versions of the Suburban and its siblings are due in spring 2014 as early 2015 models and will be based on the redesigned Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
The Suburban is a longer version of the Tahoe, and it can seat up to nine people. Its GM siblings are the more upscale GMC Yukon XL and even ritzier Cadillac Escalade ESV. The Suburban competes with other full-size SUVs like the Ford Expedition EL, Nissan Armada and Toyota Sequoia.
