I found one of Dave Kehl's vehicles on cars.com right at the maximum distance I was willing to travel (250 miles). I telephoned, and established a rapport with Anne at first, and a bit later, with Dave. I prequalified my trade-in by describing my current truck to Dave. We established a likely range that he could offer me for my trade, and based on that, plus what I already knew was a good price on the 2013 truck that Dave had for sale, I made a motel reservation for Friday night. Sure, the deal was still vague but I had a sense that buying a car from Dave Kehl would be overall good experience, and I wouldn't be taken advantage of because of my long drive. On Friday afternoon, I called Anne just before closing time to confirm the new (2013) truck was still available, and we made a plan for me to be at the dealership when it opened on Saturday. I showed up when the dealership opened, met Dave, test-drove the new (2013) truck, and I liked it. It was just as Dave had described. Dave evaluated my trade-in, and was able to offer me more than I expected--and more than he had previously estimated--on the trade. If you like that kind of small-town honesty and integrity, and you are not in a big hurry, Dave will take care of you. Do your research, confirm that Dave is asking a fair price, make a good plan, and follow through. Then, let the purchase unfold. Don't be in a hurry. Enjoy the moment. Dave's a busy guy but he knows what he's doing and the deal came together like a hot knife through butter. It was that easy.
