THE BEST CAR BUYING & SERVICE EXPERIENCE EVER!!

by from Norwalk, CT |

Hands down this Toyota dealership is the best one. I have purchase cars from Westport & Milford Toyota in the pass and they don?t add up to A1- Toyota New Haven. From start to finish and even after my purchase I am very happy. It starts with Joe Firine the internet manager. Making sure I didn?t drive all the way to New Haven and didn?t have the car I wanted. To Chen the sweetest sale person and I am a hard person to sell to. It gets even better with Paul Wright has who might I add sold me my 1st car back in 1995 and he is still going strong with Toyota Finance Services. To Joe at Service who was so carrying a patient. I will never buy a car anywhere else. A-1 has earned its name for sure! Jasmine Williams

Good dealer

by from Hamden, CT |

I've purchased two new vehicles over the past 10 years, a Corolla and a Matrix from A-1. The buying process was very direct, one price policy and they explain their built in perks. In closing the deal they do try to sell some dealer add on options, but are not obnoxious about it. Free oil changes do require a wait, and every few they try and push their "service" routines which are expensive. However I don't think it gets much better than this as far as car dealers go

Long Waits for basic 5K service

by from Stratford, Ct. |

If you make an appointment for 5K interval BASIC service, prepare to be there for a good long while... this has been my experience the past year or so at A-1Toyota sevice dept., good chance you'll wait 90 MINUTEs for that oil change... I'm looking elsewhere, or will go back to simply doing it myself....

Disappointed (now former) customer

by from Hamden, CT |

I am extremely unhappy with A1's service, and that is a change from years past. Having taken my 4Runner there for a long time, I used to think they were responsive, helpful, and honest, all that seems to have changed. I recently had new tires put on the 4Runner. I don't drive it much, and rarely on the highway, so it wasn't until a few weeks later that I noticed a shake that seemed to indicate the tires hadn't been balanced properly. When I brought it in for service, they said the balance was fine and that the problem had been fixed because they'd replaced a bearing in one wheel. In fact, the problem had NOT been fixed, which was immediately evident when I drove the 4Runner - and would have been to them had they bothered to check it. I brought it back in. Turns out, their machine that checks balance was not working correctly and, in fact, my wheels WERE out of balance. BUT, because the worn bearing "might" have contributed to the original problem, they still insisted I had to pay for that service. Had the machine been working all along, there wouldn't have been a problem in the first place and that service would not have been necessary. But now I'm out $600+ and not ever going back to A1

STAY AWAY from SERVICE

by from trumbull ct |

The dealership is redone so looks good from the inside.. service is a nightmare.. even with an appointment it takes 2 hours for an oil change, (have experienced this multiple times) Been a customer of theirs for a while but for the past 6-8 months every time we have been there it feels like they are fleecing us with not only our time but keep bringing out problems which we are not experiencing and asking to do unnecessary service.. think the service personnel are commission based so BEWARE>. What ticks me most is their severe lack of concern for customer time.... APpointment ARE A JOKE. to the dealership: APPOINTMENTS ARE SOMETHING YOU HAND OUT AS A UNWRITTEN PROMISE TO BE FULFILLED>> DONT TAKE MORE THAN U CAN HANDLE>>

we had a very unpleasant experience

by from New Haven, CT |

We came in to compare prices on a model we had already decided we were getting . The dealer we met was unprofessional, disrespectful and generally incompetent. We might have gotten the car there if not for him- we met the manager who seemed fine, but why he would employ this dealer is beyond me

stay away from this dealership!!!!!!!!!!!

by from New Haven County |

This has been the worst experience I ever had trying to get a used vehicle.I was in the market for used Toyota Prius or the Camry hybrid. When I was doing my research I came across two vehicles at this particular dealership. It was a week before then in the month of April which I showed up to test drive these two vehicles. The first one was the Toyota previous, the salesperson told me it's a certified vehicle, one owner. Let me tell you it was a certified piece of junk. Watch what you're buying there. Before test driving this vehicle, I inspected the car inside and out. On the outside I noticed the bumpers were hit multiple times. By inspecting the will well pick connection pieces and those are the little plastic parts power popping off due to pressure being put onto the bumper. The outside had multiple scratches on the quarter panel, which is very noticeable. When I was about the sit in the car, I noticed a big scrape in the dashboard and also the leather seats were scratched up. But I began I decided to take the car for a test drive. When I might test drive on the highway. The car was pulling heavily to the right, the alignment was off and steering wheel was shaking. Once the test drive was over. I told the sales rep and not interested in his vehicle, and pointed out problems with this vehicle. The next vehicle. I tested out with the Toyota Camry hybrid. The car ran fine. No issues no problems. When it came down to talking about the price of the vehicle had how they came up with it. It blew my mind. I did a lot of research on the Toyota Camry previous with pricing with all the options. The dealership was $2200 more than the other Toyota dealerships selling the same equipped vehicle. George the sales manager, explained the dealership does not negotiate on the price, but gives you free oil changes for life. George was pressuring me to purchase the vehicle on the spot. I forgot to mention this is the last week before the at month ends. I decided to walk away and go home to think about it. The next day the sales person calls me up to find out if I was still interested in the vehicle, I told the salesperson I looked at to other cars with the same options at two different other Toyota dealerships. I gave the salesperson did the numbers to each vehicle that I was looking at to compare apples to apples. After 20 min. on the phone with the salesperson I started receiving text messages on my cell phone. I'm not talking one or two I'm talking 20. The sales manager George sent me 17 text messages. Why should by vehicle from him. This was unprofessional, on top of that, two days before the end the month. George made 14 phone calls wall within 48 hours trying to get me to buy this car. When I told George that he was $2400 more for his vehicle than the one I was looking at both certified by Toyota same options he had nothing to say. He Say Will Give You "Free Oil Changes for Life, in your backyard" even if I kept the car for three years the oil changes, to be $200 and that's with synthetic oil. The Other Toyota Dealership Does the Same Thing. The Moral of the Story Is to Your Homework before You Walk into This Dealership. If You're Leasing a Vehicle. It Does Not Matter You Get Free Oil Changes for Life Is the First Two Years from Toyota. It's Free. If You're Looking for a used certified Toyota vehicle. Do your homework, you'll find other dealerships a lot cheaper than them. the last conversation I had with George. He said he was the biggest Toyota dealership in Connecticut and I asked him, are you sure about that. Then he changed his statement He said "only the last three months". in this review. I would love to give the other two Toyota dealershipsa an acknowledgment, but I decided the people that review this blog didn't do their homework before buying a car from them.

A1 Toyota responded to this review

June 2, 2013

On Saturday, April 27th, Mr. Black visited A-1 Toyota and drove two vehicles, a Toyota Prius and a Toyota Camry Hybrid. When I spoke to Mr. Black, he was very complimentary of both the vehicles and the way he was treated. He said he would discuss it with his wife and tell us which vehicle he was going to go with on Monday. On Monday, April 29th, Mr. Black spoke with his salesperson, Danielle, and said he had found a vehicle (Camry Hybrid) in Hartford and one in New York. He said the one in New York was about $1,500 less than ours and had the same equipment. He told me where the vehicle was and asked me to check it out. I ran an inquiry from Toyota and the vehicle had $5,500 less equipment from the factory than ours did. Mr. Black then said he was going to buy a vehicle from a dealer in Hartford, CT. When the salesperson followed up the next day, Mr. Black said he had purchased the vehicle at the Hartford dealer. Mr. Black then called back on Thursday, May 15th over 2 weeks later and left a message on my voicemail. As it was my day off, I promptly returned Mr. Black's call on Friday, May 16th, and he told me he wanted another Camry Hybrid, and again inquired about our vehicle. He informed me that there was one in Long Island that was cheaper than ours. I again explained to Mr. Black that A-1 Toyota is a "No Haggle, No Hassle" dealership and our policy is to post our best price on our vehicles (and online), and I would not be able to reduce our price for him. He then hung up on me, and sent me a text several hours later that there was another vehicle in Westchester that was the same price as ours, but a year newer. On May 17th, Mr. Black sent another text referring to the vehicle in Long Island again. On May 19th, Mr. Black wrote this review of our dealership on Cars.com. Regarding his allegations in this review, my phone records show that Mr. Black actually texted me 11 times. I responded to Mr. Black's questions with 4 texts. Mr. Black also texted his salesperson on several occasions. It is our philosophy as a dealer to make the buying experience as easy as possible. It seems that Mr. Black became frustrated because we are a No Haggle No Hassle dealer, which means we cannot lower our prices, as they are already the best price available. Mr. Black unfortunately has chosen to express his frustration by maligning the dealership and its employees with a substantial amount of embellishment. We apologize if he remains unhappy with our policy, but we invite him to choose A-1 Toyota again should he have any further automotive needs. Sincerely, George Mudry Sales Manager A-1 Toyota

Fair price, good quality

by from Hartford, CT |

At least with used cars, this dealer does not bargain - the sticker price on the car is the price he wants to get. The pricing is fair, but not a "bargain". The used Camry that I purchased was priced 3% higher than what Edmunds recommends for a "clean" car and 1% lower than Edmunds' recommendation for an "outstanding" car (yes, I put in all appropriate info into the car's price evaluation, including dealer zip code to make sure that the price was accurate). The actual car was closer to "outstanding", so I feel that I received a fair, if not an excellent deal. By the way, the NADA retail value of the car was $1,100 higher than the dealer's price, but I think that NADA retail values are bloated.

bought 'new' used car on cars.com

by from W. Springfield, MA |

My new used car had only 300 miles on ODO, I thought it was a misprint. Bought a 2010 Toyota Matrix in July 2011 from a dealer 60 miles from my home. Salepeople were on salary not commission, so they were not trying to sell you something you didn't need
