Bogus diagnosis

After having a headlight installed at North Shore I began to smell oil when driving. at first I thought it was the environment then I confirmed it was coming from my car,When I put cardboard under the car there were oil spots. I went to North Shore. They said it was a bilateral valve cover leak. they would need to replace the warped plastic valve covers at an estimate of $1000. I thought this was exorbitant. I consulted with a mechanic that services my collector cars. He cleaned off the excess oil on the top of the engine. The next week there were zero oil drops on the cardboard under the car and there was zero oil on the engine once held a puddle. i do not believe i ever had a leak. Leaks do not heal themselves.The only previous service i had on the car was at North Shore. If they were not the source of the spill on my engine in the first place,they did misdiagnose the cause. I will not go back and i wonder how many valve cover leaks they "fix" in a year.
