"We are enjoying the CMax. Have only had it for a month but so far we like it a lot. For one thing, it is very comfortable. It rides really nice and has plenty of power when you need it. And I love the lift gate. It's our first hybrid and we find it sort of like a video game. By that I mean there are at least 3 ways it gives feedback about how well you are doing with gas milage. It is interesting to see how well you do on each trip. You really do drive a hybrid differently - - that is, if you are interested in milage. Other features we like are the phone sync and radio that can all be done hands-free or just from the steering wheel. So far it's a great car. Can't really speak on reliability yet. Hopefully we will have a great review on that later."

"I traded in my Pontiac Vibe, reluctantly, for this vehicle and I was in love right away. On long trips and short the car is very comfortable. I have 2200 miles on it, and my mpg keeps going up - already at 41 mpg. I love the quiet cabin. Even road noise is mostly eliminated. It has great pick-up even at 65 mph (had to find out once, and it did not fail me!) Have used SYNC with two different phones (iphone and android) and have had no problems. The car handles great, nice stability, even in windy conditions. It has loads of room front and back (even for very tall people) and plenty of room to carry cargo in back. I have already recommended this car to several of my colleagues!"

Hatchbacks as Hybrids Hard to Find

"I'm a hauler. I need a hatchback for my garage sale stops and do-it-yourself projects. My previous '07 Prius was amazing in terms of everything I could fit in that car, including a 55 gallon rain barrel capture system. But, as a trip car, it was noisy and a bit jarring. It was time for a trip out west and a nicer car. The only other car that had the space, and mpg I could stomach were the Prius and the C-Max hybrid. So, after test driving them both I went with the C-Max. Here's why. + Heavier vehicle by 600 lbs but translates to a nicer, quieter ride. + I ride higher and I like that a lot. Lots and lots of headroom. Makes it feel very spacious. But I am 5'1", so keep that in mind. + The back-up camera is very nice and easy to see even in daylight. + As long as I have the keys on my person I can touch any of the four doors and they will all unlock. If I am traveling by myself, touching the driver's side door will be the only one that unlocks. + Ford technology is amazing. At first I thought the whole "Efficiency Leaves" things was a bit far out but I am driving better (more efficiently) than I was with the Prius. The dashboard is more colorful and entertaining than the Prius'. + I can coast further in the C-Max than the Prius. It's kind of like the experience of trying to coast on a low end bicycle compared to how far you can coast on a high end one. + The technology also includes automatic gas mileage calculations for every leg of a trip. The lowest I have gotten on a short trip is 34.6 mpg. The highest is 88.6 mpg where I was able to use the electric motor the entire 4 mile return trip that included a mile up hill. + Now while that previous statement seems unreal, overall I have lost 5-10 miles per gallon on an average fill up. My overall mileage after 1400 miles is 39.8, much lower than the 47 advertised. However, it was 29 mpg when I purchased the car with 78 miles on it. I assume those 78 miles were done by people testing the acceleration - which is awesome, btw, because I was one of the persons testing it. + My point is though, that this car has the ability to remain in electric mode far longer than the Prius. My mpg continues to climb with every fill up so I'm hopeful I'll reach the mid-forties over time. Now for the negatives. - I do have to drive conservatively. I could drive like a bat out of Hades in the Prius and still get 45 mpg. Now I have to drive like I'm carting nitro but I'm actually enjoying the slower pace. And the whole dashboard thing makes it like I'm playing a video game while I drive so it is kind of fun and rewarding. - I think the cargo volume is rated at 54 cu. ft., nearly the same as the Prius. However, most of that space is near the ceiling of the car which is higher than the Prius. - You won't get 47 mpg unless you work at changing the way you drive but hey, that's a good thing. - Seats feel firm. When we go out west I'll let you know how they felt over the long haul. - We bought the SEL version with everything but the Rear Park Aid. We love the Panoramic roof and I think if I had kids they would love the glass ceiling view from the back seat. Maybe our grandbabies will some day? Overall, I'm very satisfied. Having fun driving it so if it turns out to be as well made and reliable as a Prius I'll have made the right decision for my needs."

"I have had my C-Max SEL die on four different occasions in the past three months. While on the highway it gave me an error to stop the car safely. It turned out to be an additional electrical problem."

"The C-max is very roomy inside. The ride is exceptional. Since I only have a thousand miles on the car, I cannot speak to its reliability. I love the touch screen display and ease of controlling the radio, navigation, and temperature. The one down side to the car is the gas mileage. I knew it would not be the 47 that they advertised, but I was hoping for 37 that Consumer Report claimed. I am at 33.3 mpg."

"I have had my car for just a week, but already am in love with it. SE version with the Ford My Touch system. My first 200+ mile trip returned 55 mpg, and I am consistently in the mid to high 40's. The car is fun to drive, with a nice ride and good road feel I am 6 foot 6 inches - the drivers seating position is comfortable for me. The large glass area gives one an expansive view of the road. To those complaining about the MPG's - it is the driver, not the car. Pay attention to the coach, ride the pedal gently, and don't cruise at 70 or 80 mph."

"I've had this car for over 2000miles so far and I'm getting 43.7MPG. The hybrid coach helps(and my fuel economy is still getting better). Getting that MPG folks is cruising controlling 62MPH and not rabbit starting for green lights. I love the roominess of the vehicle and the heated seats. Total failure for the Sync from Microsoft. That thing glitches on me weekly. Dealership says to restart the program but who are we kidding? I don't have time for that(weekly). I couldn't get programmed for the gate opener for the apartment. So there is my cons. Pros is the car looks great, love the rims, and leather. Quite ride. Again roominess."

"Fantastic and fun car, built way more solid than a Prius. Loaded with electronic "fun" -- almost a comfortable "home" away from home. Enjoyable to drive. BUT -- got under 30 mpg many drives, 30 to 34 mpg at best. Ford blames the driver, but I blame Ford. Unless their EPA is easy enough to replicate, it shouldn't be advertised. Great car, with exception of false gas mileage claims."

"I've been a Toyota / Lexus girl since my first car. Since I was looking into a hybrid vehicle, I decided to test drive Pruis C and C-Max to compare. The outcome was totally unexpected. As a result, I'm converted to Ford, a proud C-Max owner right now. C-max just has this willingness to go! I picks up faster, much quieter and handles responsively. Most of all, the interior feels very spacious. I wanted to change vehicle to accommodate our new baby. My husband is 6.4" so we want a spacious car. C-max looks small from outside but don't let it fool you. We are definitely pleased with the roominess it feels. It handles the turns very well and I feel safe driving it. I don't hear much noise from outside (this is particularly problematic when I test drive Pruis C. It really felt so noisy). MPG is not as good as it claims though. The way I drive, I only get about 37-41 MPG. It's not bad at all but just not as advertised. I've had it for just about one month and really enjoy driving it around even though I am Very pregnant at the moment!"

"Looks great, feels great, horrible gas mileage... Have 5000 miles on it, was told by dealer would be broken In after three tanks. Still only get average city-highway 33mpg. I am retired, drive normally, still the same. Bad part, I bought the car for the mileage Ford advertised. Now many other people with the car have reported in the same boat. I bought the extended 6 yr. warranty and was told by the dealer to sell it after that and I computed the difference in mpg. cost close to $2000!!!"
