Consumer Reviews
"The plain cargo van with air conditioning needs a bulkhead behind the front seats in the 105 deg Texas summer to stay cold. A big blanket or cargo bulkhead will do. Those trying to cool the whole thing need the "rear air" option and insulate it. The a/c has a quite large condenser across the front. I learned that the 1/2 ton van was given a higher GVW to avoid being counted in the CAFE standard. Added weight is beefing up the suspension and using the large 3.73 3/4 ton rear axle. Good. It has the 225HP 286 Ft-Lb. 4.6 liter (281 c.i.) V8, like what went in the Crown Victoria but improved over time. It has no trouble getting on the highway and keeps up in traffic. Larger engines are available but I am happy @ approx 2000RPM @ 65MPH. The 4-speed auto overdrive with lockup has firmer shifts than in 2004. It has two DC outlets: cigar and 'DC'. The dashboard top is black, so expect some summer heat from that until the van is cooled down. A light colored dash cover will be added. It cost $20K with 19K miles on it. I get right at 17MPG at 60MPH and overall 14.3MPG. Get one now: "Ford .. replace the E-Series in 2013 with a global version .. "Transit" platform .. Ford of Europe." I tried but did -not- like the narrow Transit Connect van's cabin, or its weak air conditioning, or less cargo space, all costing more $. Ford's elimination of the E series will skyrocket the cost of owning a van and drive me to Chevrolet or a pickup truck rather than the cramped European Transit cab. The full size van should therefore keep its value well if taken care of. I intend to keep this one for 10 years or until the wheels fall off. I bought the extended warranty covering everything for 125K miles."
