"I owned my Escape for 4 years and can only say good things about it. We only changed over to a minivan to fit more people, but once I'm done with that car I plan to go back to another Escape. The power was great, the all wheel drive got us out of a lot of issues, probably more than we were aware of. My newer Corolla (with fewer miles) had more costlier repairs than my Escape had."

"I have owned a 2001 xls ford escape for 7 months now very nice suv.Awd and 4x4 are very nice havent had in snow yet but its coming soon.Ive had to replace the tranny fluid and engine oil so far. i hear trannys are very bad with this year.Other than that nothing major just oxygen sensor and struts but at 125,000 miles its running strong. This car has never left me stranded and i have off roaded it and its great in mud.very sharp great gas milage for an suv and the looks of it with running boards front chrome bursh guard makes it look like a tank. The bad part about an xls is the center console its very low to the floor and no arm support, would buy another one but atleast a 2005 xlt."

"So, I bought this car about 1 1/2 yrs ago at 68,000 kms on it. Since that time I had to change the master and slave cylinder twice ($1200 each time), had the temperature control knob break off (not rough with it), the engine blow up, the vacuum lines go and it periodically just not start on me. Beautiful when it actually goes, but I'm selling this one before something else goes south on it. Note though, I do have the 4 cylinder version. Apparently the garage called a bunch of wreckers to get a replacement engine and there are hardly any out there due to the fact that they go so often. Beautiful."

"I have just reached 75.000 miles and I am the original owner. Recalls annoying but never found anything to replace. Good size for family of 4, excellent driving position, good power and handling. I have 3.0 XLT with 4WD and very good in the winter. Added a Gibson free flow exhaust which has upped city mileage and highway mileage to 18/24 mpg. Added many other accessories - Roof rack with OffRoad Lights, Front and rear Road Bars with Fog and Driving Lights and etc. Service has been a bit expensive at the dealer, example 75,000 mile = $223.00"

Most comfortable front seats I've ever owned

"I've owned 12 cars over the years from Honda, Saab, Mercedes, Volvo, Toyota, and a Ford Ranger, and even though the transmission had to be rebuilt once on my 2001 Escape, I'd have a really hard time giving it up because the leather driver's seat is SO comfortable--with great back support! And not too soft. I've taken 4 road trips from San Francisco to Chicago. With the cruise control on, these seats, and a premium surround sound package, it was great! Plus, I'm averaging 25 mpg. True, my Honda Insight commuter gets almost 50 mpg, but any of these new "Hybrid" SUVs aren't getting much better than what I'm getting in my regular 6-cylinder automatic 4x4 Escape, which is a little hard to believe about those things, and I really think you can do better. But, for the money and the comfort, this is a great truck. The only thing I'd give this up for would be a reasonably-priced Hybrid Escape with all the features that gets at least 50 mpg......come on Ford.....you already have the best trucks; we have the technology, you can do this: 50 mpg in an Escape. That would be very cool."

"I only use it in the winter which I was surprised that it got around with no problems even when the snow was up to my "running boards" /great car/truck plenty of room and prefer to drive it over my 4 runner limited due to the escape has more power and room and it actually did better then the Toyota in the snow!!!"

"The Escape is a very solid small SUV. It performs very well on slick roads and has good handling. I like the cargo space as wll as the roomy back seats for small children."

"Escape is at it's best on snow covered roads. Seamless 4X4 system...leave on automatic for smooth transfer from FWD to AWD. Versatile cargo/rear passenger area, although a bit clumsy to remove and stow headrests. Good sounding stereo. Very hard, uncomfortable seats. Transmission shifts with emissions in mind, not driver's wishes. Some quality/fit-finish issues, but my Escape was an early production model. AWD system seems to rob mileage, especially in cold weather. Not a bad value, but Ford/Mazda could have done a better job."
