"I've had my 2002 Ford Escape XLT for about 3 years now. This is probably one of the best vehicles I have ever owned! Handling is almost like a sports car. Power in the 3 liter V6 rivals what you find in formula racers, well not quite, but you will be happily impressed when you step on the gas to get out of harms way. I drove mine from California to Virginia with a U-Haul trailer behind me, and I had no problem at all at the high speeds that are allowed outside of California. I won't even go into the highway comfort of this SUV, but I will say that I was able to drive long hours and still be pretty fresh when reaching my destination. If you drive conservatively, you will easily get 26mpg on the highway, while enjoying a smooth comfortable ride. I love mine so much, that I can't wait to get another one."

"I've had my Escape since 2002. It's safe, reliable, great for packing in people comfortably, or carrying around a lot of cargo. But it's more compact than most SUV's- easily parked, easy to handle, etc."

Not quite a car, not quite a truck

"I bought my 2002 Escape used about a year and a half ago when my 95 Explorer kicked the bucket. I was going to buy another explorer but I couldnt really afford one in the year and mileage range that I was looking for. So I took a look at my little Escape. I liked it when I test drove it but after a while it just didn't seem to fit me well. I really honestly have no major complaints though. It has great power (I have the 201-hp V6 XLT model), handles wonderfully in the snow and rain (I live on Long Island about 25 miles west of NYC) and the stock 6-CD changer it came with is great for mixing up the music on my half-hour commute. The problem is sometimes it feels too much like a car, and other times it feels like a truck. Also, I have been getting gas mileage in the 17-18 MPG highway range...nowhere near the estimated 25 highway. I have had to replace the hub bearing (covered under warranty), the battery and the other day the alternator conked out. I really wish I had gone with an Explorer but hindsight is 20/20. Bottom line is, it's a great little car/truck...I just personally wish I had something a little bigger."

"I enjoy my 2002 Ford Escape. It has been very reliable for the past yr. It is roomy and a real trooper on the highway. My vehicle has about 130,000 miles on it and very few problems. However, within the past year I have invested a large amt of money for minor, yet major, repairs. I had to get a new IAC valve, fix an oil pan leak, repair a cylinder valve, replace seat belt holders and a fuse in the main switch box for my front ext lights. Also, my O/D light flashes every so often, so maybe a new transmission in needed. The repairs were almost as much as the car is worth. Maybe I just need a new car!"

"In the day of gas hogs and high prices this is the MOST afforable SUV for your dollar. We have found our Escape get ~400-450 miles per tank and it cost around 40-50 dollars to fill; MUCH better than other SUV's that easily cost 70+ to fill. We have had our Escape for 6 years and have had very little problems at all. All mechanical work was very minor, like needing a new stabilizer for the front suspension - but then again, we do like to take it off-road a lot too. Have NEVER had a problem with the electrical system or engine. I would easily buy another one. Best SUV I have owned. Good, sure bet."

"I love my suv. I drive from st. geoge to salt lake all the time. I like the way it drives, I love the way it handles, I love its power, esspecially when you need it, roomy too. Seats could be more comfortable. My kids can lay down the seats and lay down. This is great for camping too. Overall this is a great SUV and I love it"

"I really enjoy my Ford Escape. My only beef with the vehicle is where the shifter is located. It sticks out way too far and could be easily hit and car could be shifted into a different gear accidentally."

"Burns a lot of gas; front end has had a lot of work done, and it's still not right; not a car that you can keep on the road inexpensively once you've reached 100K."

"Purchased this car with 41 miles on it in 2002.Worked fine for the first 20,000. Then had problems with the throttle body sticking....it was replaced twice! Rear defrost wire has fallen off on left side. I had to have the IAC valve replaced last week. I am taking it back in this week because the car makes a horrible sqeaking noise when I turn the steering wheel."

"I bought this escape used and it had 80,000 miles on it. It now has 160,000 miles and is going strong. I get between 22 and 26 miles per gal on average air on or not. The only complants i have are the seats are stiff and took a while to get use to but it could bethat my 240lb body is not made for those seats. Great SUV for the comuter. I love it."
