"Bought a 2011 Escape XLS 4WD in April 2011 and completly satisfied. Great gas mileage, smoot ride, safe, and great handling. However, the four cylinder is a little underpowered in this vehicle, I live in the hills of Maryland and the truck does struggle at times. Also, the seats are a little hard. I do wish Ford still made these in manual 4WD instead of automatic 4WD. Gas mileage is great for a 4WD in the area I drive in averaging around 22-24mpg. Overall, I am very pleased with this vehicle."

"I test drove the Escape along with some other smaller SUV type vehicles. It drives well though I still ended up buying another car. My problem with the Escape was, for the mileage, the overall interior space is a bit cramped. Folding the seats is a chore. What unsold me was the exposed spare tire under the body, a tight back seat and the low fuel tank capacity. The car was too over-economized for my purposes, even if it has one of the lowest purchase prices for its class. The estimated ownership costs outweighed the purchase savings for me. It is a great car for those who mainly haul small loads around town and take an occasional trip to the country. To compete with the foreign automakers, the Escape needs a longer driving range between fill-ups, better cargo space management and some kind of spare tire cover as standard equipment. The winter road salt could make a mess if the spare tire was needed during that time."

"I researched mid-size & small SUVs,Vans and Minivans for the past year. Shopped at Honda,Toyota,Kia and Ford. We've had the Escape 4 months now and are perfectly satisfied. It's attractive, comfy, has cargo room, rides quietly and smoothly, handles well, and is great on gas. Love the Michelin tires. And its a safer vehicle."

"I got this car in Florida for two weeks. Never drove a Ford, so I said why not. The car was one of the two options at the time. The car is verty underpowered for a SUV. Transmission is terible. The car jolts most of the time when changing gear. The cabin is very noisy, poorly designed and the plastic used of very poor quality. Once you go over 75 mph you can hear wind draft. I got 24 mpg going mostly on highways at 80 mph. By the way, car was almost new with only 6,000 miles on. And who in the world is still using a three feet antena sticking on the side of the car? Positives: seats we confortable enough. Elecrtic seats adjustments and automated lights were nice on a rental. Also the handling was fine and one the car got to the crusing speed it seems to be in its zone. Not sure what some people found so nice about this car to give a four or five stars, but my old Chrysler Concorde '99 is shear luxury compared to this car."

"After driving an Acura MDX I wanted a smaller SUV with better mpg and lower payments. I did get lower payments but not much improvement in fuel economy. My Acura avergaged 22mpg. I had the escape for 7 months and so far I only averaged 2 miles more a gallon. I did chose the 4 cyl for better gas mileage but there was no point. Plus it has no power at all. I regret that I bought it. Theres no other option but to just pay off the rest of this piece of junk and sell it, then buy another Honda made vehicle. Another thing my friend had the Escape Hybrid fwd and gets the same mpg I get in the regular and Ford claims it gets up to 34. That is false!!"

"Overall, it is a very good vehicle. MPG is better than advertised (26 city 32 hwy). Quiet, smooth ride. No extras in the base model I purchased, but for $19,200 I feel like I got my money's worth. No problems except the air bag light will not go out. Occasionally the transmission jumps in first gear if I accelerate before it is fully engaged, but overall I love the smooth shifting 6 speed transmission. The 4 cyl is great in the city, passes quickly on the highway, and cruises smoothly. This is the first Ford I have owned since 1969 Mustang, but in this economy I had to buy American."
