Consumer Reviews
"I bought this car for the technology that it comes with. Little did I no that none of it would work. sync's my ford touch never works. always goes dead and reboots. satellite radio always skips (never did in my old car) FM radio is static, volume goes up and down by it self. ac buttons don't work. steering wheel controls all die. sunroof doesn't always work. The Smart Key that is a really nice feature when it works usually never works. leaving you locked out of your car for up to 15 mins at a time (not to fun when its pouring out and you have to be somewhere). and now the newest problem and the worst of all is the gas pedal just randomly dies well you are driving. Not happy with this car what so ever and its not even the cheap model. its the fully loaded SEL."

"I am writing this review for the sole purpose of helping at least one person make the decision of whether or not to buy the new Escape even with the somewhat negative reviews. I got sucked into the trap of thinking that these issues would not happen to me... However, I was wrong. Up until a few weeks ago, I would have told you that I was very happy with my new car. Until I turned on my car (with only 4,000 miles) and was shocked to find that it was choking up and then saw a display reading "faulty engine, please service immediately". The car then shut off. When I restarted it, the problem had seemingly resolved. I still took it to Ford and they found an issue with the turbo. This required 2 parts and a 2 week + stay in the shop. When they asked me if I had rental car coverage I just laughed, why would I need this for a brand new car. I drove a Toyota for 10 years before getting this car and I never had a single issue. I would HIGHLY recommend reconsidering your purchase, especially if your primary concern is reliability! Additionally, I have had multiple issues with my Bluetooth and My Touch system and strange electrical issues. I will be trading this vehicle in the first possible chance I get!!"

"I purchased a 2013 Ford Escape SE..I now have 1100 miles on the car. I have read some of the more negative reviews, and have to say that my experience has been overall excellent! At this point I have no problems with the Voice Activated My Touch Sync Sustem..works flawlessly..for now. I love the handling of this car--corners great, has smooth acceleration, good brakes. The cabin is comfy although there is not alot of storage room..I end up using the side door storage bin frequently. As for gas mileage, I am getting 21 mpg around town..I am totally satisfid with this mileage--I turned in a gas-guzzling Jeep Liberty that was getting a miserable 14.5--so I am in heaven at 21 mpg! My main gripe with this car is the right side gas tank fill--it's pain in the neck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also wish they had made a functional tailgate window instead of a one-piece tailgate..I am happy with my purchase--no real major issues yet, and i dind that the Escape is stylish and comfortable..I bought the model with roof rails because I felt the car looked sort of pain wiithout them..but that is just a personal taste issue!"

"I bought a 2013 Ford Escape brand new. During the first recall, my car was in the shop for a couple weeks. Ford would not make my monthly payment but offered to defer 3 months of payments to the end of the loan. At least thy tried, sort of. The Sync system is rebooting itself at least twice a month. Half the time the phone will not upload my contacts...it's the android phone. The best mpg I have ever gotten was 24mpg...that was on a flat highway going with 30mph wind gusts. Around town and interstate I only get about 22mpg, regardless of the weather. Currently, the vehicle's rpm is hitting 6000+ while the car slows down from 25mph to 15mph. Happening intermittently so dealership can't diagnose."

"We have had the 1.6 SE FWD Escape for 6 months now. Love the car and its more than adequate power, excellent sports like handling, smooth ride and quietness. Great styling inside and out makes us proud to drive and we opted for the large sun roof which is a delight in good weather ! Seats are very comfortable for long duration driving. Only gripe is with gas mileage which we expected to be better. After 6000 + miles we are getting around 19.5 mpg in city and 22.5 on highway. Mileage bit better with higher graded fuel, but not enough to justify extra costs. Its a great driving and looking vehicle but gas mileage is a concern."

"Had my new Ford 2013 Escape by less than 300 miles. Parked in the garage, started up the Ford Escape 2013, opened the driver's door to walk around the car. While in the back of the car, I was backed into by my new car and quickly jumped back into the car to stop the car by pressing on brake and pressing the stop button. The door hit the side of wracks and severely damaged the door and dented the fender. It was still in Park, I believe. When I was in the car at first, it never moved backward on a level surface, some 20-30 seconds later it went into reverse. Presently, Ford has halted the repair on my vehicle until they can photograph it. I pray that Ford will take care of the damages of $2,995 and make sure it doesn't happen again. I am a responsible person who cares about safety and the new Escape now scares me for jumping out of Park into a reverse mode. The above is all true and hopefully Ford will come out and make it right. I have heard that they take two months and often deny any claims. Beware of your Ford Escape about the Park slipping in reverse. BTW: it does not start in reverse, so it had to be in park and the car was under power moving wracks and boxes back from a dead stop position and time off the clock later. Ford ordered to stop repair on my Escape until they flew someone out, and it has been told that it will be eleven days after I took it to the shop to repair. I am paying the repair so I can get my car back. I will report well if Ford covers all the cost of the repair. Honestly reported!"

"Drove a rental SEL 2.0 AWD with 19000mi last weekend for almost 850mi with 4 adults onboard. I enjoyed this vehicle dynamics and handling. I'been interested to try it out and see what all the chatter about the gas mil and problems was about. The vehicle had no issues, no ratling noises and worked as supposed. Best advice I can give you, rent one for a week and make your own decisions about gas mil. We averaged 30gal on a 35% city 65% Hwy weekend in DC area all the way to Norfolk VA. I can tell that this engine requires for the driver to learn how to use it and forget the habits you had with previous engines to get the most of it. AWD is fantastic and the engine has ample power. Sync was a mess with voice recognition but the touch screen was easy to use. Try this vehicle for a week and you will see if it fits your driver profile. Good luck"
