"I bought this 2DR hatchback as a second car, and when I got it it already had over 100K on it. I thought it had been taken care of pretty well before me, but almost immediately after taking ownership I had to put almost $500 into it to keep it going. It served its purpose and did what it was supposed to for the two years that I had it, but I would never say that it was my favorite car or anything like that. Also wasn't that comfortable for an average-sized guy (5' 10"). If you've got kids I'd advise against it. If you've got to get from A to B economically, it's worth a shot."

"This car is good, cheap transporttation. Too underpowered for an automatic but fairly driveable with a 5 speed. Gas mileage decent - about 30 mpg with a 5 speed. Handles like a econobox and amenities are farely sparce. Good errand or train station car."

My 2nd '95 Escort

"Wow! What a surpirse with the GT!! I had a little 4-cyl stick '95 Escort, standard model, for my company's errand car. Just something to rack the miles on, but no matter how I abused it, it just wouldn't die. None of my employess were careful about how they drove it either. Had over 180K mi's on it - without any rebuilds -before I retired it. I just found and bought another Escort 95 GT, 1.8L I-4, and I was seriously shocked with the performance. This little car is a powerhouse. I bought it very used (139K mi's), reconditioned it, and am looking forward to tearing up some asphalt with it. It drives very strong, tons of torque, and embarrassingly burned a bit of rubber at every gear shift until I got used to the "punch" it packs. Grew up in a family that owned car lots and have driven just about everything under the sun, but funny that the Escort GT has been one of the more enjoyable ones, and absolutely the funnest econo-box Inline 4-bangers I've ever driven! Highly recommend Escorts, and GT's if you want to add performance. If you find one in great condition at a reasonable price, buy it."
