"I before I bought my Excursion was hesitant due to the fuel cost and fuel mile per gallon ratio. I dont get excellent milage yet comparing size and weight of vehicle 14 miles to the gallon city 18 highway its not that bad considering the comfort and safety riding on your way to your destination. Non the less it is the most roomiest and comfortable vehicle and I have comapred it with a newer model Suburban and no contest except the fact that it was newer nothing more."

"Bought two the forst year, 2000 they are personal vehicles - have had no problem. Bouth third in 2003 for work and it has been great BUT with teh V10 gets less mileage. Bought 2 more the last yeart of production and they are for both work and for home use. Have probably driven a total of 250K miles between all of them. Love my Vette and my Viper, but I take the Big "E" out most of the time!!!! have a family that loves it as well."

"Over all this is a very good truck. I bought it to pull a 24 1/2 boat, totaling about 9000 lb's, and it does it very well. When considering one, check the bolts for the exhaust manifold to the heads as they rust out and break. Very expensive to fix."

"Folks, if you're looking for a work-horse SUV that can carry 9 passengers AND tow an RV or horse trailer -- you're gonna have to find yourself a used Ford Excursion. There is nothing else on the road that can do what this beast of a truck can do. Equipped with the right engine and final drive ratio, this puppy can yank 11,000 pounds worth of trailer, while coddling your 8 passenger friends. The last Excursion was built in 2005, and low mileage ones are rare. Opt for the 7.3L diesel or 6.8L V10 -- the 6.0L diesel is a disaster waiting to happen, and the 5.4L V8 doesn't have the moxie to movie this 6,200 lb truck around. Forget about new Chevy's -- their 3/4 ton Suburban can't match the tow rating or roominess, and it's not available with a diesel engine. And Dodge? Huh. They don't make anything close. (Oh, yeah, forget Land Rover, Toyota, Mitsu, too)."

"It is not a Prius, but then again, it is everything a Prius is not! Great car to move your family and their belongings around. Very dependable and the maintenance has been very little beyond the routine maintenance."

"We have had 2 Expeditions 2000 XLT (customized) and 1999 Eddie Bauer and always wanted this Big Boy. Now I have been blessed, and can really appreciate the size after driving expeditions for the last 8 years. I love this vehicle. The gas mile is what it is. If you are worried about that, don't even look at this SUV (go with the Expedition instead). But is you need the size and towing and take a lot of road trips as we do, this is the best deal. I bought mine used for under $15,000 which half of what I paid for my first Expedition. It is a different drive though. After a few hundred miles init, I am used to it. It handles like the truck that it is when doing city driving, but when on the highway, WOW, it is an extreme pleasure. Would have wanted a little more power under the hood, but I guess I am used to my 5.4L V8 in the expedition which is lighter. Anyway, this will be easily fixed with an exhaust upgrade and cold intake upgrade. Eventually, i will get around to changing the leaf springs to a more high performance spring kit. One recommendation, if you buy one with the OEM shocks, change as soon as you can. The OEM shocks are like sponges compared to a set of rancho shocks (front and rear). Because I saved so much buying used and just when everyone else is concerned about gas mileage, I can afford to do major upgrades that will increase an already great performing Super Duty SUV. (Keep that in mind SUPER DUTY) I really have no cons, because I am one of those few people who is use to the gas mileage of an SUV. With a family of 5, many road trips and camping trips, a lot of home improvement hauling, and trailer towing, this vehicle gets used to it capabilities. One more thing, the towing mirrors and rear parking sensors are a must have and a life-saver. They make parking this Big Boy a breeze anywhere."

"Pros: plenty of room in all 8 seats. I'm 6'5" and I fit comfortably in the third row. Comfortable on long trips. Pulls anything (V-10).Plenty of storage. Extra Large. Bigger and better built that Suburban. Cons: Extra Large. Gas Mileage (ll ish around town, 13 hwy). However, buy one used for less than $15k and it will take a lot of miles to make up the $30k you saved off of the original price."
