"Oh, this truck's powertrain looks so good on paper: an 8-cylinder turbo diesel with variable valve timing, high-pressure piezo injectors, variable vane turbo blades, 6.0 litres of displacement... oh, so seductive. Hey, it's built by Navistar, not Ford. And it's the biggest mistake engine Ford ever put into one of its trucks. My 6.0L engine in my Excursion suffered multiple failures -- twice leaving me stranded with family on the side of a highway after puking all its engine coolant (without warning). The EGR valve, water pump, turbo and high-pressure oil injectors are all weak points. Buy this truck at your risk. It *will* fail on you. :("

"We have had this excursion for 5 years and 120,000 miles and except for a seat malfunction (easily fixed) we have had NO problems. It still runs like brand new and the size is just what we needed for our trips."

"Love my Excursion! Over 150,000 miles, nothing but normal maintenance. I tow a heavy horse trailer all the time. With the 6.o turbo diesel I get 10 mph with the loaded trailer. Without it, I get 17 in town, 21 on the highway. Lots of room, smooth, quiet ride. Feel safer than being in a tiny little car! Like I said, LOVE IT! I bought in new in Dec. 2003."

"Ford Exursions are very big SUV's. Full size actually. They get about 10 MPG which is okay for an SUV. They ride very nicely for a big car. They have a 44 gallon tank. They hav 3 engines available includind a V8, a V10 and a diesel V8. It also has available features such as power adjustable pedals, and a lot of other luxury features. For an SUV it is a good value. If you want a vehicle that is taller than a Jeep Grand Cherokee, here you are! If you need to haul the kids or haul a lot of junk, here you are. It is a very, very good car for a big guy."

"Gas Mileage aside, This truck can haul a large boat, 8 people and their luggage in comfort. With optional DVD system and leather your whole family will find their "own space" in this land yacht. I have owned mine since 2004 and have loved driving it. The only drawback is that it loves gas stations, and with a 44 gallon tank that fill up can hurt. But for control of the road and overall "safe" feeling the Excursion is the way to go..."
