"the 300 inline six is the best engine Ford ever made. olny problem I know of is the electronically limited output of the engine. fuel economy is good especially when compared to it's 8 cylinder counterpart. (10 horses at best) only 1 complaint, if you hit a large bump or pothole it can shut off the fuel supply as the computer thinks the truck has been in an accident. reset is under the dash, passenger side firewall."

"ford "nuff said". ford trucks as far as i have known them are really reliable and last a long time as long as you take care of them and service them when needed like keeping a check on engine fluids like oil, ect."

"I bought this truck new in 1991 and it has needed less than $1,000 in repairs. This is probably the best truck chassis Ford has ever used. Front shocks were the only suspension component that warranted replacement. One alternator, both fuel tanks, a water pump and relay were the only non-wear items needing replacement in 16 years. The 300 cid inline six cylinder has never failed to start (with the exception of of a couple of dead batteries over the years). It provides limited horsepower, but beats any gas engine today in low rpm torque. It has pulled or hauled stumps, gravel, cars, trucks (medium duty) and any number of items without complaint. Things I would change are the trasmission, which is not up to the truck engine, and the open differential. It handles like a truck, which is great because that's what is is used for. Comfort is not the best and fuel economy is about 8 city, 12 highway. (I'm looking for my own domestic oil well). Reliability and utility far outweigh the cost of fuel. Since I do life in the rust belt, I do plan on replacing sheet metal rather than pay for a new, less trucklike truck."
