"I bought my 2006 Focus ZX5 new. I drive ALOT of miles daily to work and have over 95,000 miles at this time. I get anywhere from 28-30 mpg depending on my foot! I have had little problems with this car until lately. Just replaced the Alternator last week, my middle console two big wheels did come off and my keys got stuck in the ignition several months ago. The key issue was resolved with a shifter. All these items occured after 80,000 miles! I enjoy this car, its roomy and can carry alot of cargo. I just want to know if anyone has one with over 100,000 miles on it and it's dependabilty."

"So far I was very happy with my 2006 Ford Focus. Up until now, I did not have much to complain about, but yesterday, my key got stuck in the ignition and it will not come out, although, it does start. I did a little research online, and this is an ongoing problem with the Ford Focus. I will be taking it to my dealer to get it fixed, but unfortunately, according to the research I have done, this may happen again as it is a faulty cilynder, and although it is currently under warranty, when its replaced, its replaced with the same type of cylinder, which is faulty. Also, when driving on the freeway on a windy day, the car does get pushed around a bit. Other than that, I really did love my car. I am now more concerned about where I may be at when my keys get jammed in the ignition or not fit in it at all. Do research on this and you will see this is a common problem. I wish I would have known this before I got my car.... But other than that, so far not bad."

"I have the 2006 Ford Focus zx4 se sedan automatic. Next month will be 3 years I have it and I have almost 32000 miles on it. Not bad. Comfortable and no major problems. Fuel economy is terrible. I do have a heavy foot and I have taken this into consideration but yesterday I filled up on gas after driving 15 miles the needle was almost at the 3/4 mark. Maybe the fuel gauge is broken - I usually get 180 miles of city driving and 280 highway driving. Not good. I just took it in to ford for 30000 mile service and they charged me almost $600 and there were no other issues. The two big wheels on the center console came off and Ford wanted to charge me over $200 to replace it. Something like that should be covered under warranty. Anyway - good car not great and don't believe the hype re: fuel economy."

"This car has been in the shop SOOOO many times. I bought this car brand new, right off the lot with only 22 miles on it. I have regretted it from about month 3!! It is on its 3rd Alternator...which they don't make a big point of telling you it only has a 12,000 mile warranty. Had its first one at about 23,000 miles. Had to get the gear shift indicator replaced. Rotars replaced at about 33,000 miles...brakes started squeeling at 20,000 but they told me all cars squeel like that....sorry I was the only one in the pick up line at school embarrased at how LOUD it was. Now my radio and all lights on radio just shut off while driving...oh yeah and not to mention...I've driven this car with no keys in the ignition either! But they can't find ANYTHING wrong with it?!?! WORST CAR EVER!!!!"

This is the REAL DEAL with the 2006 Ford Focus.

"I bought a 2006 Ford Focus SE with an automatic transmission on Memorial Day Weekend in 2006. Since then I've put 47,350 miles on the car and have had ZERO problems. Everyone is complaining about the fuel economy on here. I get 37.5mpg AVERAGE because of the way i drive. The other reviewers can't expect to drive 80mph and still get 32mpg on the highway. they are nuts. drive 65mph and you will get 32-34mpg easily. keep the tires inflated and it makes a big difference. As for value, I bought this car brand new for $12,950 with the incentives. To date the only money I've put into it was for oil changes. One fuse went for the cigarette lighter because i constantly use it to charge my cell phone, GPS, etc. Big deal. A fuse is less than $1. Everyone complains about squeeling brakes. My brakes have never squeeled. With 47,350 miles on the car, I still have the original tires, brake pads, you name it. I've put 23,000 miles/year on the car and absolutely LOVE it. the interior isn't that of a Bentley but it's nice and practical. i'm not picky for the price i paid for the car. Bottom line - best bang for the buck. if you take care of your Focus, it will take care of you."

"I bought a 2006 ZX4s, the sporty model with the 2.3L engine. It was a lease car. What I like about it is pretty much what has been said - handling, power, good gas mileage. All in all I'm satisfied. Two annoying little things though. Fit and finish isn't as good as the subaru I traded in. On of the doors rattles when you hit any small bump. The lcd display in the radio fades out after it's on awhile. It was a good value for the money, maybe not as good a car as a Honda, but then again it didn't command the higher price."

"I've had this car for nearly 2 years and it's been a very dependable vehicle. I drive 75+ miles per day (41,000 since purchased), and have consistantly gotten 30 mpg +. It performs well in and out of traffic (although it's underpowered) and I was impressed with the cargo space. It reminds me of a mini SUV, except it gets great gas mileage."

Poor gas mileage, unreliable commuter car

"I have had an '06 Focus 5-door hatchback for just over a year. We bought it primarily for its supposedly good gas mileage and it had the features we were looking for in a vehicle we could afford. The first 8 months or so were fine. I put a lot of miles on my car commuting about 100 miles/day. While it never came close to its touted 30-37 mpg, gas mileage was such that I could live with it. About 10 months in, I started noticing a whining sound when I would accelerate that to me, sounded like the beginning of a transmission meltdown. I was right. the first dealer I took it to, told me the sound I was hearing was just my tires. After it left me stranded on the interstate with a bad mass air intake sensor going bad, I had my husband take it in and explain to them that there was a transmission problem as well because the service manager wouldn't listen to me when I told him. The transmission had to be rebuilt, which took over a week and the gas mileage suffered tremendously when the car was finally returned to me. Less than 6 weeks later, I had to take it back to the dealer because the transmission had gone out AGAIN! They had it again for almost a week. I got it back and drove it for 3 days when I had problems AGAIN! I have averaged 23 mpg in a Ford Focus and am still awaiting the return of my car to me after having it serviced 4 times for the transmission in less than 4 months! Do NOT buy a Ford Focus!!!"

"I bought the car new a year ago, and about 90% of the driving I do in it is long-distance. I put about 16,000 miles on it in the year I have owned it and I do not regret buying it."

"Bought this car second hand with a salvage title! I have it now for 3.5 years. I have 55k mile on it. Runs great. Since it was salvage I had less expectation... but it turned out a greate reliable car! I had cross country trip with this car. So far I just changed breaks once and regular oil services. The only thing, it does not have as much power for uphill, dont know it is a focus thing or small car thing!"
