Consumer Reviews
"We bought our Freestyle Limited AWD used with over 100,000 miles on the V6 engine. - *THE GOOD* If we don't floor it and maintain speeds below 70 MPH on the freeway we can get up to 26 MPG. The ride is very smooth, quiet and comfortable. The controls on the steering wheel for the cruise controll and stereo are straightforward and easy to use. There is plenty of room for 6 people to sit comfortably. The rear seats fold down quickly and easily for additional storage area and there is plenty of it. This vehicle is great for road trips. - *THE NOT SO GOOD* City driving really consumes fuel. If we are doing lots of starting and stopping our fuel economy drops to 20 MPG or less. The controls for the heat/ac are not the easiest to access as they are down very low below the radio and behind the shift lever. The door locks automatically engage when you shift out of park (which is fine) but they do not automatically dis-engage when you shift back into park. - *OVERALL* We did a lot of research before we purchased this vehicle and we're happy with our decison. We are sad that Ford discontinued this line because we would totally buy another newer one a few years down the road if it were available."

"My wife and I bought an 05 Freestyle SE 2WD new in 05. We were expecting our 1st child and wanted a safe vehicle to haul people, our big dog, and all the stuff that goes along with it. We chose the Freestyle, it proved a good decision. The Freestyle has been a very reliable vehicle over the 102,000 miles we put on it. Fuel ecomony was adequate but the engine had to work hard at times in city traffic (18-20MPG). Highway driving was where the vehicle excelled getting 25-27MPG. We would have kept it for years to come, but we ended up experiencing the Volvo designed saftey features in a front end collison at freeway speeds. No one was hurt but the car was a total loss. Better to lose the car than the family. We made the perfect choice."

"I have a 500 and recently bought this Freestyle. Both have rear brake issues. The freestyle has the CVT in it, and I regret that. mileage is unimpressive (21-22Hwy. compared to 27-28 for 500) and the CVT requires an expensive service every 50K. The six speed is the way to go. However, they both do their job pretty reliably and the Freestyle has much better driving balance to it then the hobby-horse 500. Cheap, cheap, cheap seats (typical of Ford), good ergonomics."

"We've owned the car for 2 months now, and are happy with it. The CVT drivetrain has a different feel than traditional transmissions. The car has reasonable power, but isn't sporty. Our 2nd row is 2 bucket seats without the console, and that does make for better access to the 3rd row. The 3rd row seat is fine for a 6ft, 220lb person. One engine item to be sure and inspect on used: The rubber bushing on the Transaxle Roll Resistor. It's a common failure. It's on top of the engine and easy to locate. A general internet search of this item will help with details. Overall, we wanted a 3rd row vechicle that's not a van, and this is a great choice."

"When we were looking at the freestyle some of the reviews said that it didn't have much get up and go. We found that to not be the case! It is a great car and shame on Ford for not continuing to make these."

"Not really wanting to go down the 'mommy van' road; I decided to look into a Freestyle because I liked the 'wagon' styling of it. I LOVE THIS CAR! It has the third row seating of a van, the room of a van, AND it is All Wheel Drive- even better in the mountains of North Carolina where I live. I had a Volvo XC70 before and loved it; but needed more room. The gas mileage is less than my Volvo; but still average about 20 around town. On the highway at 70 it is stable and comfy. In the 'twisty turny' roads it is stable. I have no complaints about it; yet- :-)"

"This was one of the best vehicles i ever owned. The styling was very easy on the eyes, and the interior was very people friendly. I used it on vacations on the freeways and off road at lakes. Was a great performer as well as the seating in the back that flip so you could watch the fire works in the rain without getting wet. I regretted having to part with it because of my job cutting us back.I could not have hated it more. When i see one on the road i wish i still had mine. Ford should reconsider and plan on making it once again."

"Bought our 2005 Freestyle used two years ago, and it is a great vehicle. Solid, dependable, no problems. Only dislike is the cloth seats. Any spill does NOT come out. I have two small kids and like most kids, the have accidents. Other than that, a great vehicle. AWD is fantastic in the snow!"

"We bought our Freestyle used in '05 right before the birth of our son. It had about 12,000 miles on it. It was a Godsend; I love this car. We now have two children and two dogs. We haul them everywhere in our Freestyle. We have been on several vacations, road trips, camping etc... with this vehicle and it has yet to give us any problems. We are now over 65,000 miles and it still rides great and gets decent gas mileage. I would buy another when we are in the market again (if Ford still makes them)."
