Consumer Reviews
"Although this car gets great gas milage and has been very reliable It is very difficut to get my 3 growing kids in and out of this vehicle. It is not easy for them to move the seats to get in the very back seat and 3 car seats do not fit across either row of seating. My kids have grown and it is very hard for them to fit in the last row of seats as there is NO LEG ROOM. Would not recommed this car to any one with more that 2 kids. It is not a great family car like we thought it would be."

"So far we've really enjoyed our Ford Freestyle. It handles well and is very comfortable to drive. It gets decent gas mileage, about 20 in town and around 27 on the road at 70 mph. It's very simple and quick to lay down the seats in order to haul large items. I've enjoyed the CVT. When driving in hilly terrain with cruise control you don't have to worry about the transmission down shifting when you go up hills. We've really enjoyed the dual automatic temperature control. My wife always wants it cooler than I do so now we can both be satisfied."

"I have owned many vehicles in the past 39 years, but none have come as close to meeting my expectations as this vehicle has. The Ford Freestyle which was manufactured from 2005 to 2007 is simply an amazing vehicle. It is more than a station wagon version of the Ford Five Hundred or the Mercury Montego. It handles extremely well regardless of the weather in the AWD version and with its fully independent suspension based on a Volvo chasis, the ride is superb. I know of no other AWD vehicle with this much weight that can average well over 20 mpg. The 3.0 liter 24 valve Duratec engine mated to the continuously variable transmission (CVT) is a winning combination and I do not know why the CVT was discontinued in 2008 when Ford switched to the 3.5 liter engine. The CVT keeps the engine RPM in the "sweet spot" to maximized fuel mileage. On the highway, with the cruise control set at 75 mph, we average 24 mpg. If I set the cruise at 60 mph, I have averaged 31 mpg, which is better than my Audi A4 with its 2.0 liter four cylinder. The icing on the cake for this vehicle is leather seating for seven, and a 5 star crash rating in frontal collisions, and a 5 star crash rating in side impact. This vehicle is truly Ford's best kept secret."

"I needed a vehicle that was larger and smoother-riding than my Ford Escape. This Freestyle fills the bill perfectly. In addition, it's a Limited model that has every available option--DVD player, sun/moonroof, AWD, in-dash navigation, and the list goes on and on. It is the most optioned vehicle I have ever owned, foreign or domestic. I have only had it for a month now, but one of the best things about it is that it gets better gas mileage than the smaller Escape, even though it's 1000 lbs. heavier and has the identical engine! I credit the CVT transmission for the great mileage. But...the trade-off is that acceleration is slow. Once you're rolling, though, the tranny never shifts gears, so it's extremely quiet and smooth-riding, and the vehicle just loves to cruise at 72-76 mph. I honestly believe that Ford just gave up on this vehicle. It was not marketed/advertised correctly, and then as a last ditch effort, they changed the name to the Taurus X, put a more powerful engine in it--GOOD--but somehow even with a six-speed automatic transmission, lost MPG--BAD! I found a 2007CPO Limited with only 22,000 miles on it and grabbed it! It's going to be with me for a long time!"

"We traded our 2002 Ford Explorer for an 2007 FWD Freestyle SEL about 8 months ago. This is a terrific vehicle in styling, comfort, utility, performance, and reliability. The first time my sister took it on a long road trip she called enroute to ask if I thought the gas gauge was faulty. This question came because of the gas tank indicator dropping so slowly, mileage turned out to be around 32mpg with cruise set at 75.Keep up the good work Ford!!"

"This is by far the best car I have ever owned. I bought it used with 36K miles on it and was a little leary of it but it is just great! The ONLY thing I have a problem with is there happens to be no auxillary plug in on it for my MP3 player. But I can live with that. I can't believe Ford discontinued this car, what a mistake. My husband has a 2008 Taurus X which is what they renamed it before they discontinued it. He loves his too!"

"I've wanted one of these vehicles since they came out in 2005 - liked the looks, capacity and style. Finally got a used 2007 Limited with 16K miles a few months ago. I've driven 5000 miles since. It's been a dependable, solid vehicle and the cargo capacity is truly impressive. I like the comfort and high driver's position. Power is adequate despite all the knocks on this engine mated with a 4000 lb. vehicle. Sound package is good in the Limited. Best I can get highway mpg despite cruise and a relative light foot is about 23, less than I had expected. Handling is OK but this is definitely not a sportscar. Watch out for a blind spot driver's rear if you don't use the mirror and just turn your head, like me. Noisy under acceleration and climbing hills. Overall, nice car but maybe my anticipation was better than the realization."

"We have owned our '07 Limited Freestyle with 33,000 miles for almost two years now and we LOVE it! Enough room for a family of four with space left over for visitors. 23 MPG in the city and no problems what-so-ever. We use it everyday in all kinds of weather and I really have no bad things to say. I guess if you are really looking to find a down side it's that this is no race car, but when I need to pass on the freeway there is more than enough power to get what I need. We plan on holding on to this car for many many years. I'll give ya another review in a couple of years, but thus far it is a GREAT CAR!"

"The ford freestyle is a great car. I go up steap hills almost every day with a 6 ft. lader inside and it has made it up every time. The all weel drive makes it grip to the road and handles great. I found my self doing 85 mph on the freeway and not even knowing it. The ford freestyle is a great car that might you a speeding tickit. I probly should slow down!!"

"We purchased our Freestyle to replace a small saturn when we were expecting our 3rd child. We initially purchased the vehicle out of necessity, and now we love it! It is very comfortable and we can easily fit our 3 children and cargo. The gas mileage is outstanding, especially on the highway. Overally a very comfortable and reliable car!"
