Consumer Reviews
"2013 CONS: Getting fewer miles per gallon vs. the 2010, with no change in my driving habits. This may be due in part because the 2013 is a heavier car -- especially the doors. The gas tank cover is now "push-to-open" vs. the 2010 with a finger grip that you simply pull open. 2013 cover easily accidentally hit and left open. The small storage compartment on top of dashboard is replaced with compartment at the front of the console just under the radio. It's open on both sides and in front, making it very easy & dangerous for things to fly out into the driver's floor. Trunk lid much more shallow in dept & doesn't rise as high as 2010, so you have less headroom when lid is open --makes loading items into the truck harder, and you're more prone to hitting you head on the trunk lid. Trunk also not as wide, but it is deeper front-to-back. Console larger in width and height. Great for arm-rest comfort but causes drink bottles to sit much higher & get in driver's way. Also diminishes side-to-side leg room, especially on passenger side. 2013 now has 2 separate levers -- turn signal on left & wiper control on right -- wiper very sensitive & easily hit. Glove compartment now has a small half-shelf --annoying as things tend to fall off it. 2013 PROS: The car is a dream to drive. I detected road noise in my 2010, but so far none in the 2013, nor a single rattle. The 1.6L eco-boost engine has so far been very responsive & I've noticed no decrease in performance compared to my 2010 with a larger engine. Shallow depth of trunk lid seems to have allowed for a larger back window, which greatly helps with visibility. I opted for the 203B pkg which has the base radio & smaller screen than the touch-screen with the backup camera. The base radio is far superior to the base radio in the 2010, which got almost nothing but static when trying to pick up local Atlanta stations (just 35 miles from where I live). I have no static issues at all with the 2013 radio. I opted for the base radio as the next step up has the touch screen with the backup camera, which initially I thought would be a great safety feature. But when testing a car with the backup camera I found the screen to be angled to a degree not allowing me to see much of anything but 2 red lines indicating the area being caught by the camera. The radio screen is now larger on the base radio, allowing for larger numerals showing the time, and the date is now shown. This is the first radio I've ever had on which I can actually easily see the time, especially when driving. The USB port under the arm rest on the console has been moved to a much better angle and is clearly visible. I've found the small wide-angle mirrors affixed to the side-view mirrors to be a great safety feature. The driver's side power seat adjustment is much easier to fine-tune now. The 2010 had a single lever which adjusted both the back angle and the height and front-to-back spacing. The 2013 has a separate lever to adjust the back angle, and another lever to adjust the front-to-back area and height. There is also a power adjustment for the lumbar. NOT SURE ABOUT: This is the first car I've ever had that has an electric brake lever, which is to the side of the gear shift knob on the console. So far I've not had a problem with it, and there is explained in the manual a means of releasing the brake should the power fail. While it may seem I have more CONS on this car, they are small and the PROS have outweighed them. My major concerns are performance, safety and reliability. If this car proves to be as good as my 2001 Taurus, which I kept for almost 8 years, I will keep it for quite a few years. The 2010 was proving to have more small problems than I cared to deal with. That said -- I'm now waiting to see if I get the gas tank recall notice on the 2013. There was a recall on the eco-boost equipped model before I made this purchase. Only time will tell, but I have high hopes so far."

"I may be an old lady (68) but I've always loved cars and I tend to have a lead foot. A month ago I traded my 2010 Fusion for the 2013 with the 1.6L EcoBoost engine. So far I've not seen any major difference in performance. I opted for the basic 203B package, so no fancy radio, etc. I found when testing the higher end system with the backup view camera that the radio screen was angled so I was unable to actually see anything but the red lines indicating something was behind me. Cons: getting about one mile per gallon less on fuel. But this seems to be a heavier car, especially the doors, which could cause the lower mpg. The trunk on the 2010 was wider (we still have another 2010 so it's easy to compare), but the 2013 is slightly deeper. The trunk lid is more shallow in depth and doesn't raise as high as the 2010, which makes it more difficult to avoid hitting my head when putting my walker in the trunk (don't laugh--I'm serious!). Front passenger leg room is not as wide (there seems to be a hump on the right side just forward of the door which is cumbersome for the front passenger, and the console is much larger and wider, so that also seems to lessen the width). I miss the small storage compartment on top of the dashboard I had on the 2010. It's been moved to the area under the dashboard just below the radio. It's an open compartment, both on each side and in front, so it's very easy for things to fly out of it, which happened to me while driving, which is dangerous. So be sure not to over load it. The 2010 has wiper/turn signal on one control of the left of the steering wheel. The 2013 has a separate wiper control on the right of the steering wheel and turn signal is on left of wheel. The wiper control is easily hit and is very sensitive, which is annoying. I prefer the single lever used on the 2010.. The gas tank lid is a pop-out lid, compared to the 2010 which has a finger hole and you simple pull the lid outward. I find the pop-out lid is easily hit if I'm walking by it in the garage, so I have to be careful and watch to make sure I haven't accidentally left it open. The glove compartment now has a shelf, which I find annoying as things seem to fall off it. I did put some rubberized shelf paper on it, which has helped a little. The hand holes on the doors are now open at the bottom, which I don't like. PROS: The 2013 is a dream to drive. It's much quieter than my 2010. It's very responsive and smooth riding. The console is much larger and higher than the 2010 and the added height makes resting my right arm more comfortable. On the downside, the higher height means drink bottles get in your way. Because the trunk lid is rather shallow in depth that allows for a larger back window and better visibility. I love the small added wide-view mirror on both side-view mirrors. The added AC vent at the back of the console to cool those in the backseat is a plus. The radio is of higher quality than in my 2010. In my old 2010 and in the 2010 we still own there was bad static when trying to listen to stations in Atlanta (35 miles from where I live). I've had no problems at all like that with the 2013. The power seat adjustment now has two levers -- one for the seat height and one for the back, plus a power lumbar control, making fine-tuning your seat much easier. The USB port in the console compartment under the armrest is now much easier to get to. The radio screen is larger than on the comparable radio in the 2010. This allows larger numerals showing the time, and they added a date display, which comes in handy. While it may seem I have more "cons" than "pros", the "pros" out-weigh the "cons" to such a degree that I'll probably keep this car for quite a few years--if it doesn't develop serious problems. I'm waiting now to see if I receive the gas tank recall notice -- although I have not noticed any sign of leakage or gas odor. I've learned to be careful when putting things in the trunk so I don't hit my head, and not to over load the little storage compartment at the front of the console. Those are minor."

"Decide to downsize my vehicle, so I bought a magazine that compared the various models. I got to the Fusion, and liked the looks. they listed the pros and cons of the car, and under pro they said it was a "game changer". Pretty high praise I thought. So I began my 4 month trek to select my car. Test drove the base model with the Direct Injected 2.5 engine, and found it lacking in power, but liked the overall feel of the car. I briefly thought about the 1.6 eco boost, but reading the specs, it produced only 3 more horsepower and 3 more pounds of torque than the 2.5. I then decided on the 2.0 echo boost with 240 horsepower. I am satisfied with my choice, love the car so far, and would suggest the Titanium over the SE."

"I have been driving my 2013 Black Tuxedo Fusion SE for 2 months and enjoy every minute of it. This is my first new car, so all of it is kind of overwhelming. The electronics and the comfort in itself are great. I have been driving mostly in the City so mileage is about 21-22 MPG. This compared to my old 1976 truck at 9 miles per gallon is a pleasant surprise. I have had nothing but good luck with mine and would recommend it highly. I also get a lot of looks from drivers not quite sure what brand it is. You tell them Ford and it's like WOW, "I didn't know Ford made such cool looking cars""

"I had a 2005 Honda Accord and was very satisfied with it. I figured it was time for a new car. I first wanted to look for an accord, but I thought it lacked style. I love the Fusion's very distinctive and aggressive styling, I love the 1.4 ecoboost. It does well at hauling the car, and I'm averaging about 27-28 mpg city. MyFord touch may act up, but I love the convenience it brings for the most part. I used to doubt Ford's quality, but trust me when I say Ford is working on it! Honda may have a very reliable reputation, but Ford has the innovation and styling. I know I'd choose that any day over a boring old arrogant Honda"

"Purchased 2013 Fusion SE 1.6 4 cly. in late Oct. 2012. First recall was over heating engine causing possible engine fire. Second recall was for the headlight replacement. Third recall head liner. At first service told dealer about check engine light, they couldn't find anything. Picked up after 3rd recall and check engine light was on. Dealer didn't know what the code meant. Ford said #3 cylinder was not firing. So they replaced the coil. Didn't solve the problem. Ford said check clearance between cam shaft and valve. Then Ford said put in a new engine. It has been 3 weeks since I didn't have my car that I am paying on. Ford gave me a case # and the Customer Service Rep. is very unhelpful. I have a young child and don't feel safe with this vehicle. I have been with Ford for 23 yrs and have requested Ford buy back the car due to all of the issues, safety and mechanical. Tried to contact Rep and was told they would contact me. Not happy with Ford."

"There are a number of smallish things I don't care about this car There is quite a bit of road noise. The trunk opening is not high enough to get some average sized things into it easily. Unless the steering wheel is in the right position you have to...crane your neck around the steering wheel to be able to insert the key. The climate control system is much more complex then it needs to be. The seat belt fastener is difficult to insert because it is crammed so close to the console. At certain times, at low speed, the transmission clunks when it shifts to a higher gear.the top of the door frame is too low, I have bumped my head more than once when getting out of the car. The engine noise is much greater then our other car with a V6 and the mileage is only about 5 miles better in both city and highway driving."

"The 2013 Fusion is the first new car in a long time to offer something new in the looks department. I was sold immediately on the front end styling but feel Ford could have put forth an equal effort to the rear as it looks like any other mid-size sedan. I immediately dismissed the Titanium as I refuse to own a car with a negative styling cue offered by the included rear spoiler. The Titanium also offers more tech than I really wanted - just more to go wrong. I settled on an SE with the 2.0 Ecoboost with performance at the top of my list. Of course the dealer wanted to sell from inventory and I ended up with a little more tech than desired. The stock issue was missing remote start and I was told it could be added. I objected based on hacking into the complex electrical system but was told it was a Ford plug-n-play kit "Better than the factory system". With less than 1k miles I've noted the following: 6 speed trans is always hunting for gears, on 2 occasions using the remote start it triggered a Powertrain fault warning indicating an immediate need for service (The warning disappears on subsequent starts using the key), seats are excessively firm, loose trim on front door between main and triangular window, trunk lid does not open far enough (it's in your face loading groceries), annoying touch buttons and what really brought the new car honeymoon to an abrupt halt was the sound system. I wasn't attracted to MFT but is was included in this in stock vehicle. The entertainment section is above average and of course Sirius capable but Ford elected to skip over HD radio figuring I'll opt for pay-to-listen satellite. Not going to happen - I see this as a cheap attempt to market something I'm not interested in. I also like the cap-less gas filler but really taken back by a non-locking or internal release gas door. Just too tempting for vandals. Overall I like the car but have concerns over the all the high tech systems in the long run. It seems I already have one gremlin. On the plus side performance is equal to the 250HP V6 this car replaced. Suspension is tight and responsive and interior noise level low. Again, I'm sold on the styling (but wish car stylists across the board would get off the high belt line - slab sided door look). I'm hoping the reliability rating exceeds my expectations over time."

"I just purchased the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid. I picked the car up in Toledo, Ohio and immediately left for Knoxville, Tennessee. The trip was 450 miles. I drove between 65 and 70 the whole trip. I used cruise control whenever I could and did not hesitate to use the gas pedal when I needed. On this initial trip, I used a little more than 9 ½ gallons of gas for a little over 45 MPG. The next day, I traveled from Knoxville to my home in North Carolina. This trip was about half highway and half two lane mountain roads. On this trip, I got an average of 44.5 MPG. This Ford Fusion Hybrid EPA mileage is achievable. I have not altered my driving patterns and I tend to have a heavy foot. Before purchasing this car, I had search for about 2 months and drove many different models from many different car manufacturer. This is by far the best driving car for the money. Very smooth and comfortable. Road noise is minimal. Base model comes with several nice features. And now with the mileage I am getting, I could not be more pleased."
