"Bought a Supercab FX4 in 2002. It's my third Ranger. I could not pass up the red color and stylish looks. Seven years and 75,000 miles later it starts, runs and handles like the day I drove it off the lot. Everything about it is tight and well built, not light and chincy like others. The 4X4 has been awesome during the winters and back-country hunting and fishing trips. The power windows, locks, mirrors, AC, 4X4, and cruise control all continue to perform flawlessly. The 6-cylinder engine is plenty potent for a truck of this size. The extended cab fold-down seats will seat kids only. For reasons unknown, the rear axle chewed itself up at 50,000 miles or so, but was covered by warranty. It's definitely a truck and will let you know it every time you get it off road....it can be rough! Is is incredibly smooth and forgiving on pavement, though, and will earn your trust back. Gas mileage for mine runs 16-17 in the winter and 18-20 in the summer. Not as good as I'd like but I attribute it to the truck's weight...like I said it's heavy and well built. My first Ranger had over 150,000 problem-free miles before I lost it in an accident and the second had over 100,000 when I sold it. I won't get rid of this one (short of an accident) and see no reasons why this one won't achieve 200,000 plus. It's an incredibly durable, tight, well-built truck."

"I used to be a die hard Toyota Person. I had owned 6 Toyota vehicles & Prior to Toyota's a Chevy Vega. I bought my 2002 Ranger XL Utility Grade Truck used, thinking I would have to settle for a vehicle with established problems in need of repairs etc... Nothing could be further from the truth. I've been delighted with the new car performance of this Truck from the day I test drove it, with 83k miles already on it. It now has 96k miles and it is still the great little truck that impressed me when I bought it. I was so impressed with these Mazda influenced Fords, that I have recently purchased another. As used vehicles go, You just can't go wrong with a mellenium era FORD."

"Bought new only after my wife refused to ride with me in my beat up 1986 Ranger with 246,000 miles. Purchased the 2002 XLT ext cab with the 3.0 engine. Driving and using my ranger after 100,000 miles I have to say I think it will surpass my 1986. "Zero" complaints on relialibility. Only areas I think could use improvement is: 1. Get the 4.0 engine vice the 3.0. My truck is way underpowered. 2. Comfort, this truck will let you know you have been riding in a truck after a short period in it. It will beat you to death. 3. MPG NEVER got over 17 MPG, :( Other than that GREAT truck for the $$$$"

"By far the worst truck I ever ownd. Had to replace the rear sencer that cost about 350 dollers to fix. One month later First gear was sticking, so I had to fix it which cost about 900 dollers. If you need a truck don't get a ford. Had problems from day one. Only had for 1 year, used. May want to do more research when buying used."

"i have never had any problem with this truck. i drove the four cyl. model and it had enough power to haul beds, rock, and my guitar equiptment, and still got really good gas milage! it rode fine (not too stiff) and it did not go through tires and brakes like my chevy s-10 did. i like the feel inside and out, it was not all plastic like a rattle trap. if you can find one in your price range i would recomend it 4.5 out of 5.0 for a small truck."

"I thought this was the best truck in the world until things started to go wrong and happens to go wrong very often, such as the front rotars, I replaced them and 3000 miles later they are warping again very slightly but you can tell its there, so the entire front end assembly is cheap garbage, ball joints go bad before truck wears out, always a squeek in it. Turning a corner with the cheap firestone tires it comes with is impossible not to squeal. Loud on road not enough insulation to keep the noise out, rough ride, but I do get 22-24mpg with the 4.0 2wd auto. Then winter comes and you get 15mpg. Doesn't depretiate very fast when it reaches the 10,000 dollar mark. I paid 11 and is still worth 10 a year later. Don't buy it, or any other compact pickup out there, buy a car, or a wagon."
