"1993 metro finally died this month, the body rusted out finally including the brake lines. Car still runs great though with 147800 miles on it. Most of motor was original, went through multiple sets of tires and brakes and had issues with bearings and wheel cylinders but for most part, i never turned the key and have it not start. Got 34-35 MPG on auto tranny till the day i donated it to charity. Was upwards of 38-39 in its prime. Probably isnt the safest or most enjoyable car to drive but i got 80K miles for next to nothing repairs for $750 bucks when i purchased used in 2003, what a steal. Helped me afford my beautiful home. Thanks little guy"

"I bought this car used, 8 years ago for $3400 and have had a reliable commuter car for next to nothing. It is the 4 cylinder GSI version. It is very basic with no frills and a bit noisy on highway trips. The only things I have had to replace were the timing belt and the brakes! The window winders have a bit of a problem, and the exhaust rusted out in places from too many short trips and was repaired. This car has saved me so much money in gas and repairs it is unbelievable. I also have a 99 Ford F150 pickup, which has been a great truck, but it sits in the driveway until I have a need for it, why burn the gas and wear out truck tires and brakes etc when this car handles 90 percent of my driving needs? I live in Canada were gas has been over $4.00 a gallon for years."
