Vehicle Overview

The Acadia is GMC's full-size crossover, offering a more family-friendly alternative to its similarly sized Yukon SUV. Available with front- or all-wheel drive, the Acadia can seat seven or eight. The vehicle gets an update for the 2013 model year, with new styling, features and safety tech. The Acadia competes with the Volkswagen Touareg, Volvo XC90 and Mazda CX-9.

The Acadia also comes in a luxury Denali trim.

New for 2013
The Acadia's face-lift includes a new front end and interior design. There are new safety features, including a front center airbag, the first offered on any vehicle. The 2013 Acadia goes on sale later in 2012.

For 2013, the Acadia gets a distinctive, new design language — styling that will be spread to other GMC models, according to GMC officials.

The new look includes a large squared-off three-bar grille and a more chiseled hood. The massive grille and smaller squared headlights with non-functional air vents underneath look like the eye black and face mask of a football player.

Around back, the model gets a wrap-around greenhouse, with D-pillars that are also encased in glass and a new rear spoiler. New 18-, 19- and 20-inch wheel designs are available. LED running lights come standard, too.

The Denali trim gets 20-inch wheels, body-colored ground effects, a chrome grille and panoramic sunroof, all standard.

In the cabin, the Acadia gets a new upper dash and console design that features more padded materials, and new satin- and wood-patterned trimming. The padded materials have stitching along the dash and down the center console. The SLT and Denali trims get real aluminum inlays along the center console, doors and dash.

The center console features new switchgear and a touch-screen display with some button-less capacitive touch controls. The radial dials for the climate controls have small LCD readouts for temperature.

The new display comes with IntelliLink, a multimedia operating system that GMC and Buick share. IntelliLink gives access to Pandora and Stitcher internet streaming audio, so long that you have a smartphone tethered to it.

Denali models come with perforated leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, a real wood-trimmed steering wheel and a navigation system, standard.

Under the Hood
Available with front- or all-wheel drive, the Acadia is powered by a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 288 horsepower. The sole transmission is a six-speed automatic.

The Acadia is the first vehicle to get a front center air bag option. The front center airbag is designed to restrain the driver and front occupant from colliding with each other or other objects in the cabin, and it acts as an energy-absorbing cushion and hold you in place in a collision. A blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic-systems are also available. Denali models get the blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic systems standard.
