As senior vice president of advertising for Cars.com, Alex Vetter oversees the company's various sales channels, including local dealer sales and national manufacturer accounts. Prior to this role, Vetter served as vice president of network sales and has been responsible for dealer product development, client services and network operations. He joined Classified Ventures, LLC, Cars.com's parent company, in September 1997 as business development manager.
From the formation of the original Cars.com business strategy to the rollout of Cars.com into its first 80 affiliate markets, Vetter has been a driving force in the business. Since taking the helm of dealer sales in 1999, he has helped grow the network to more than 16,000 dealers.
Vetter has extensive experience in sales, marketing and product development, including international development and promotional experience. From 1993 to 1994, he was a market development officer for the English Lacrosse Union in Europe, where he handled international marketing expansion for the 1994 Lacrosse World Cup. Vetter moved to Chicago in 1994 and worked in a variety of sales and marketing roles before joining the Tribune Co.'s database and direct marketing group in 1995. He later was named business development manager for Tribune Interactive/Tribune Media Services, where he was responsible for building new online services, managing syndication partnerships with America Online Inc. and developing a custom website-building business.
Vetter received a bachelor's degree with concentrations in history and psychology in 1993 from Rhode Island's Providence College, where he was a four-year Division I lacrosse athlete.
