Cars.com's Smart Target Price is a reference price you can use when you start negotiations. It gives you more car-shopping power.
Drawing upon diverse and distinct data sources, the Cars.com Smart Target Price is the result of evaluating a vehicle’s invoice price, manufacturer's suggested retail price, marketplace demand, and availability, then applying a complex proprietary formula to the data that generates a unique vehicle price that reflects what car shoppers are really paying to get their new car. In essence, a smarter price: the Cars.com Smart Target Price.
The Smart Target Price is not available for used vehicles, exotics or every new vehicle, and it does not take into account the following things:
- Manufacturer-to-consumer rebates/incentives, which are not the same as manufacturer-to-dealer incentives and do not affect the actual transaction price. Car shoppers can generally choose to either apply these funds against the sales price as a down payment (lowering the amount to be financed), or accept a check from the dealer for the rebate amount
- Dealer-installed options
- Tax or title
- License/registration fees
