Betting that shoppers still love their baby-SUVs, luxury automakers are cracking the compact-crossover segment wide open. This year also sees a continuing shuffle among high-end luxury sedans. Lexus has refined — rather than radically altered — its RX 350 luxury crossover for 2010. That seems a sensible thing to do, as the RX is one of the most popular models in its class. An RX 450h hybrid version is also offered.

Mercedes redesigned its E-Class for 2010, with a new E-Class coupe replacing the aging CLK. It offers V-6 or V-8 engines and keeps the quad headlights it's had since the mid-1990s, though they adopt the more angular styling theme that Mercedes has recently taken on.

The Panamera is Porsche's first four-door car, though it isn't as radical a departure from the company's sports car tradition as the Cayenne SUV represented. With an available twin-turbo V-8, the Panamera goes up against the likes of a BMW 7 Series or Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
