2005 Avanti

2005 Avanti Studebaker XUV
Known for decades as an off-and-on maker of stylish, limited-production sport coupes, the Avanti organization created quite a stir at the 2003 Chicago Auto Show. Rather than unveiling a new version of the Avanti coupe, the company used the occasion to introduce a sport utility vehicle. If that wasn't startling enough, it was one of the largest SUVs seen to date. Furthermore, the folks at Avanti said they were ready to build such a machine for regular sale. Read more

Studebaker XUV

Built on a Ford F-250 Super Duty truck chassis, the Studebaker XUV will be available with a standard 6.8-liter V-10 that produces 310 horsepower and 425 pounds-feet of torque. A 6.0-liter diesel V-8 rated at 325 hp and 560 pounds-feet of torque will be optional. Both engines will drive a five-speed-automatic transmission. Special features include rear sliding doors, a retractable rear top and rear backup sensors with an audible warning. Three rows of seats are standard.

The 2005 Avanti has been redesigned around a Ford platform. The 2005 model will have a 260-horsepower, 4.6-liter Ford V-8 and promises considerably more rear legroom than its predecessor, but other details have not yet been released.
