2006 Pontiac Solstice
Two new models join the Pontiac lineup for 2005, and both are poised to replace existing Pontiacs, though not necessarily in the 2005 model year. The G6 is the company's latest sedan and eventual replacement for the Grand Am. Introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the G6 will be the "volume vehicle of the future," said Gary Cowger, president of General Motors North America. Read more

Introductions
Models debuting in the 2005 model year
G6
$20,675 - $23,300
Pontiac’s midsize-sedan replacement for the Grand Am goes on sale in the fall of 2004 in base and GT trim levels. A 200-horsepower V-6 engine will power the G6. A 245-hp GTP model and a four-cylinder version will be added later. Coupe and convertible body styles are also expected.  Get full G6 report

Montana SV6
$24,520 - $30,210
Pontiac’s next-generation Montana shuns the minivan designation. Instead, the company calls it a “crossover mid-van” that flaunts SUV-like styling cues. The Montana SV6 features folding and removable second- and third-row seats. Buick, Chevrolet and Saturn offer related mid-vans.  Get full Montana SV6 report

Solstice (2006)
$19,420
Sales won't begin until the fall of 2005, but General Motors' "back-to-basics" rear-wheel-drive roadster has already captured plenty of attention. Fitted with a 170-horsepower engine and a five-speed-manual gearbox, the curvy Pontiac Solstice evolved from a 2002 concept car and is the first product to use GM's Kappa architecture.
Carryovers
Existing models that may have an additional trim level, more features or no changes since the previous model year
Aztek
$21,530 - $24,445
Based on Pontiac's minivan platform, the curiously styled Aztek "crossover" wagon is related to the Buick Rendezvous. A CD/MP3 player and 17-inch tires became available in 2004. Late in 2003, a Rally Edition option group with a lowered front suspension, aluminum 17-inch wheels and a body-colored grille joined the lineup. Azteks use a 185-horsepower, 3.4-liter V-6 that drives a four-speed-automatic transmission. Little is changing for the 2005 model year. Get full Aztek report

Bonneville
$27,965 - $35,585
Pontiac dropped the Bonneville's SSEi edition with its supercharged V-6 engine in 2004 but replaced it with a new high-performance GXP sedan. The GXP is equipped with a 275-horsepower Northstar V-8, a performance-tuned suspension, 18-inch tires, StabiliTrak, leather-appointed seats, and special front and rear styling. Base SE and midrange SLE sedans retain their 205-hp, 3.8-liter V-6. For 2005, the SLE gains styling cues borrowed from the GXP. Get full Bonneville report

Grand Am
$22,365 - $23,615
Pontiac continues to offer a Grand Am in the 2005 model year, but only in GT coupe form as the model is phased out. An SC/T Solid Value Appearance Package is available on GT1 models. The Grand Am, which uses a 175-horsepower, 3.4-liter V-6 and a four-speed-automatic transmission, will be replaced by the company's new G6. Grand Am sedans are still available to fleet buyers. Get full Grand Am report

Grand Prix
$23,060 - $29,335
Pontiac revamped the 2004 Grand Prix midsize sedan with styling overtones related to those of the new GTO. Pontiac refers to the Grand Prix's smooth bodysides as "Coke-bottle" shaped — a theme that harks back to the muscle-car era. Choices include a GT and GTP, as well as a GTP with a Competition Group (Comp G) handling package. The GT's 3.8-liter V-6 produces 200 horsepower, while the GTP gets a 260-hp supercharged V-6. A Formula One-style TAPshift system lets the driver of a Competition Group model use paddles at the steering wheel to change gears on the automatic transmission. Side curtain-type airbags are optional. Only minor enhancements have been made for 2005. Get full Grand Prix report

GTO
$32,295
Following a three-decade absence, the legendary GTO made a comeback as a 2004 model, though in drastically different form. Based on the rear-wheel-drive Australian-built Holden Monaro performance coupe, the revived GTO had a 350-horsepower, 5.7-liter V-8 adapted from the LS1 engine formerly used in base-level Chevrolet Corvettes. A new LS2 V-8 that cranks out 400 hp and works with a new split dual-exhaust system goes into the 2005 GTO. Both a six-speed-manual gearbox and a four-speed automatic are available, along with a newly optional hood scoop. Get full GTO report

Montana
$26,040 - $30,420
Pontiac continues to offer its Montana minivan for the 2005 model year even though the division's new Montana SV6 is set to debut as a 2005 model. Equipped with a 185-horsepower, 3.4-liter V-6 and a four-speed-automatic transmission, the Montana has a traditional minivan profile compared to the upcoming Montana SV6, which has a more-pronounced front end. Get full Montana report

Sunfire
$10,895 - $15,205
Two years ago, the Sunfire's sedan body style disappeared as the two-door coupe version got a restyled front and rear end. The coupe continues into the 2005 model year, and it's equipped with a 140-horsepower, 2.2-liter four-cylinder that can team with either a four-speed-automatic or five-speed-manual transmission. Four new body colors are offered for 2005, and an optional Sport Appearance Package includes 16-inch chrome wheels and an FE2 sport suspension. Get full Sunfire report

Vibe
$17,130 - $20,455
Like other small "crossover" models emerging in the market, the Vibe combines the features of a sports car, a sport wagon and a sport utility vehicle. Front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions are offered. Built on the same platform as the Toyota Matrix, the Vibe has different styling and features. Base models get a 130-horsepower, 1.8-liter four-cylinder (123 hp when working with all-wheel drive), while the GT enjoys a 170-hp version of the engine and a six-speed-manual transmission. For 2005, the Vibe sports a fresh fascia and grille that are intended to produce an appearance similar to the company's upcoming 2006 Solstice roadster. Side curtain-type airbags, GM's StabiliTrak electronic stability system and leather seating are now available. Get full Vibe report
