Vehicle Overview
The Jaguar XK has been completely overhauled for 2007. The automaker dubs the redesigned, 2+2 sports car "the most technically advanced Jaguar production car ever built." The original XK debuted in 1996.

The lightweight, aluminum XK is a high-performance sports car that retains the luxury of the Jaguar brand. A convertible version with a fabric roof is also offered. The 2007 XK hit U.S. dealerships in spring 2006, and a new high-performance XKR arrives in January 2007.
(Skip to details on the: XKR)

Exterior
Proportioned like a coupe, the XK rides close to the ground and features a steeply raked windshield. The all-aluminum body creates a lightweight yet rigid vehicle — the 2007 XK is 31 percent stiffer than previous steel-bodied models and has an improved power-to-weight ratio.

The oval grille opening is similar to that on other Jaguar models, but the front-wing power vents are new. The rear hatchback pivots on two hinges, moving away from the user's head as it's opened.

Interior
The driver-focused cockpit offers body-hugging seats, increased interior space and more headroom than its predecessor. The instrument panel features two round dials on either side of a color display, which shows such information as gear selection and tire pressure warnings. Keyless entry and a push-button start are possible with the Jaguar Smart Key system.

Bluetooth wireless technology for mobile phones is standard in all models. An Alpine Dolby Pro Logic II sound system and Sirius Satellite Radio are optional.

Under the Hood
The XK is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V-8 that produces 300 horsepower. It can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.

The XK is equipped with a six-speed automatic with manual-shift capability via steering-wheel-mounted paddles. The one-touch paddles combined with drive-by-wire technology allow for faster gear changes. The XK meets ULEV-II (Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle) emissions requirements.

Safety
Four-channel, ventilated antilock brakes are standard, and all models include hydraulic brake assist to aid in emergency stops. The braking system can vary brake pressure at each wheel, giving the driver increased steering control.

An active front lighting system is newly optional on the XK; the dipped beam lenses can swivel depending on road speed and the angle the steering wheel is turned. Additional optional safety features include a tire pressure monitoring system, run-flat tires and a Protec dynamic headrest system that protects occupants against whiplash injuries.

XKR
Jaguar's XKR follows in the same vein as its predecessor, with a supercharged 4.2-liter V-8 under its hood. The 2007 model, available as a coupe or convertible, makes 420 hp. Other changes include a modified exterior with mesh grille inserts, modified fog lights, larger wheels, quad exhaust and dual hood louvers. On the whole, it looks much like the XK on which it's based — something that can't be said for many performance-car spinoffs.

A six-speed automatic transmission is standard, and Jaguar says the XKR accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds (5.0 seconds for the convertible), which is 0.3 seconds faster than the 2006 XKR coupe. Back to top
