Audi's TT sports car has aged surprisingly well since its 2000-model-year U.S. debut; it's still a head-turning design despite the influx of other, outlandishly styled models. The TT coupe uses Audi's Aluminum Space Frame technology and is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a V-6. The TT comes in 2.0T, 3.2 and TTS trim levels. The TT competes with the BMW Z4 and Nissan 350Z. A high-performance TTS version is also available. (Skip to details on the TTS) New for 2009 The TT's 2.0T versions can now be had with Quattro all-wheel drive, and some former options are now standard. Exterior The 2009 TT sports Audi's trapezoidal grille, which splits the front bumper. The slit-like headlights and lower grille styling lend the TT a sinister appearance. The TT's body is 69 percent aluminum and 31 percent steel, with the steel pieces located at the back of the car for optimal weight distribution. The TT is 164.5 inches long, 72.5 inches wide and 53.5 inches tall. Alongside coupe versions of its competitors, the TT is the widest and tallest. In terms of length, the TT falls between the Z4 (161.1 inches) and 350Z (169.8 inches).
The TT coupe has front bucket seats and a small rear seat. The large rear hatch opens to a 13.1-cubic-foot cargo space that grows to 24.7 cubic feet when the rear seats are lowered. Audi says the TT coupe can carry two golf bags. The TT roadster is a two-seater. Drivers face two large, round gauges behind a flat-bottom, multifunction steering wheel. There are metal pedals, and the interior vents are trimmed in aluminum.
The TT's turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine makes 200 horsepower and 207 pounds-feet of torque. An available 3.2-liter V-6 generates 250 hp and 236 pounds-feet of torque. A six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is standard on base coupes and roadsters. The 3.2 is the sportier of the two models and as such comes with a sporty six-speed manual standard, with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic as an option. Both the coupe and roadster are available with either engine.
Standard features include:TTS The TTS is Audi's high-performance version of the TT. Available in roadster and coupe versions, the TTS is powered by a 265-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 258 pounds-feet of torque. The only transmission available is a six-speed dual-clutch automatic. Aside from the hot-rodder powertrain, the TTS also gets a magnetic adaptive suspension with Sport and standard suspension settings. The TTS features unique bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights. There's also a larger lower air intake up front, lowered rocker panels on the sides, a rear diffuser and quad exhaust pipes out back. The TTS is available with Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige packages.
