The G8 sedan is Pontiac's full-size sedan and the first North American model based on a new platform that will also support the upcoming Chevrolet Camaro. The G8 is available in base, G8 trim with a V-6, as well as GT and GXP trims with V-8s. The G8 competes with full-size cars such as the Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300C. New for 2009 A GXP high-performance version has been added for '09. (Skip to details on the G8 GXP) Exterior The G8 has the presence of the recently discontinued GTO, but is less rounded. The air intakes recall the late Grand Am, and there's a little of the current G6 in some front-end shapes. If some of Pontiac's older styling was exaggerated and the GTO and G6 are too plain, then the G8 falls somewhere in the middle — but leans toward exaggerama.
The G8's interior features a simple, clean layout and glowing gauges, and the GT includes leather sport bucket seats with prominent side bolsters.
There are three engine choices available in the G8 model lineup.

With a Corvette-derived 6.2-liter V-8 making 402 hp, the GXP also gets an optional six-speed manual transmission — a six-speed automatic is standard. The G8 has big Brembo brakes and a more aggressive suspension setup. To mark the distinction from a G8 GT, look for uniquely designed 19-inch wheels and more aggressive front and rear styling.
