Mazda revived its rotary engine for 2004 when the company tucked it into a sports car with four doors. Available with a manual or an automatic transmission, the RX-8 combines an urbane driving experience with the vitality of rotary-engine power. For 2008, a limited-edition 40th Anniversary model recognizes 40 years of Mazda rotary engines. Competitors include the Mitsubishi Eclipse and Nissan 350Z.
