It's been about 20 years since the Chevy El Camino passenger car/pickup truck was sold in the U.S., but GM is planning to resurrect the concept for the 2010 model year under its Pontiac brand. Why now? Why Pontiac? In an age when crossover SUVs and fuel-sipping small cars are all the rage, some may wonder why automakers still pursue large, relatively gas-thirsty sedans. As the auto show season winds down, New York City took center stage. This year automakers really toned down the flashy, wild concepts to let new production models sink in a little better; one concept was even ready to be tested on roads. Mike Hanley, David Thomas and Joe Wiesenfelder took out their red and green pens one last time to decide which vehicles are worthy of showgoers' time in New York. The New York International Auto Show is the last domestic show for new model introductions until November. New York will have its usual mix of foreign and domestic, cars and trucks, modest and luxury in a region of the country no manufacturer dares miss.
