Sure, there were a lot of plug-in cars introduced or updated at January's Detroit auto show, but how real are these models? Are they just an illusion to address the recent period of high fuel prices? Or are they a bid by domestic automakers to appear relevant and viable to Congress and the American car shopper? Kia's new entry in the compact-car segment is the Forte, and it will replace the Spectra when it goes on sale this summer. It faces strong competition from the Honda Civic, Ford Focus and Toyota Corolla, long-standing models that have made a name for themselves in this category. Because of that, we wanted to see how the Forte compares to those models in a few key areas. The number of debuts at the Chicago auto show this year was smaller than normal, with only a handful of new models making an appearance. Mike Hanley, Kelsey Mays, David Thomas and Joe Wiesenfelder weigh in on which models wowed and which fell flat. This year's Chicago auto show may have fewer of the glittery reveals during media days than in the past, but for show-goers it's still the first time anyone outside of Detroit will get to see the latest all-new models heading to showrooms this year.
