BMW's 3 Series won 2006 World Car of the Year honors Thursday at the New York International Auto Show, beating the Mazda MX-5 and Porsche Cayman S. America's midsize family sedan market is second only to full-size pickup trucks. Over the past decade, the undisputed bestseller has been Toyota's Camry, with Honda's Accord ranking No. 2. But two new models at the New York Auto Show deserve more than a passing glance from Toyota and Honda executives: The redesigned Nissan Altima and Saturn's all-new Aura. The last major U.S. auto show of the season will have its share of significant debuts, as Audi, Saturn and Nissan all saved a few important introductions for the New York International Auto Show.
