2010 Land Rover LR4

By Mike Hanley, Cars.com, 4/8/09
  • Competes with: BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz M-Class, Audi Q7, Lexus GX 470
  • Looks like: The LR3's successor is more like one of the Land Rover family
  • Drivetrain: 375-hp, 5.0-liter V-8 with six-speed automatic; four-wheel drive
  • Hits dealerships: October 2009

Land Rover's LR3 SUV will be replaced by the LR4 for the 2010 model year. Though the new model's profile is similar to its predecessor's, it gains new styling cues that better align it with the rest of the Land Rover family. Additional changes to the LR4 include an updated interior and the installation of a new standard V-8 engine that makes more power.

The LR4's front-end styling is significantly different from the LR3's. Changes include a new bar-style grille and new headlights. The back of the SUV still features its predecessor's unique asymmetrical liftgate styling, but the taillights now have a clear-lens design. On the whole, however, it looks similar to the LR3.

The LR4's new V-8 engine is larger and more powerful. It displaces 5.0 liters, makes 375 horsepower and 375 pounds-feet of torque, and benefits from direct-injection technology. There are more changes under the sheet metal as well, including a revised suspension for better on-road performance, according to Land Rover.

Interior changes include a revised center control panel that features a new button layout, a new steering wheel, new front seats with longer bottom cushions and LED ambient lighting.
