BMW 525
It’s been said that designers are at work on the next generation of BMW’s midlevel sedan and wagon, but the launch of those models is a couple years down the line. For 2002, the Sport Premium and Convenience option packages are gone, and an in-dash CD player is newly standard. The 5 Series fits between BMW’s smaller 3 Series and its flagship 7 Series sedan.

2002 BMW 745

BMW 745
A fourth generation of BMW’s high-dollar flagship sedan arrives for 2002, introducing what the automaker says is the world’s first six-speed-automatic transmission. Although both V-8 and V-12 engines were available in the previous 7 Series, only a 4.4-liter V-8 version goes on sale initially in the 745i. The regular-size 745i went on sale in January 2002, and the longer-wheelbase 745Li joined it in March. A V-12 sedan called 760Li is scheduled to arrive later as a 2003 model.
$18,000 – $20,100

The optional Steptronic transmission’s manual mode has been revised, headrests are new, and an in-dash CD player is now standard. Bi-xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights, which use xenon for both the low and high beams, are a new option. 2002 BMW Z8

BMW Z8
Other than a slight upward nudge in its sticker price, nothing has changed for 2002 with BMW’s most costly model. Most people have never even seen a BMW Z8, much less contemplated the purchase of one. At $130,645, which includes the destination charge, plus another $2,100 for a gas-guzzler tax, the Z8 isn’t a sports car for everyone. During 2001, BMW sold 970 units of the high-end roadster in the United States, according to Automotive News.
$62,500 – $66,800

2002 BMW M3

BMW M3
The high-performance BMW M3 coupe and convertible went on sale in spring 2001. Both models come packed with a Getrag six-speed-manual transmission and a 333-horsepower, 3.2-liter inline-six-cylinder engine — that’s about 100 hp more than the regular BMW 3 Series engine delivers.
$19,850 – $22,100

An in-dash CD player and remote keyless entry are now standard in BMW’s two-seat Z3 hatchback roadster and coupe, though the CD unit wasn’t available until after the start of 2002 production. A new Sport Package for the 3.0i roadster includes cross-spoke 17-inch wheels, sport seats, heated mirrors, new brushed-aluminum console trim and a mesh-front air intake.
$10,400 – $13,900

2002 BMW X5

BMW X5
BMW joined the luxury SUV ranks in the 2000 model year with the X5, a car-based sport utility vehicle created to challenge the Infiniti QX4, Lexus RX 300 and Mercedes-Benz M-Class. Equipped with permanently engaged four-wheel drive, the X5 is suitable for “any road, any time, any reason,” says BMW, but it isn’t really intended for use as a true offroad vehicle. Instead, BMW calls the X5 a “sports activity vehicle.” The stylish and sporty SUV is produced at BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, S.C., alongside the Z3 sports car.
