Consumer Reviews
"I used it till last year. now my family grown up, so needed to go for full size car. I used civic for 4 years and it was awssome experience. miles per gallon was on an average 25. And this is the only big thing I liked about it. In this recession time, cost on gas really matters to me. Also there was no other maintainance other than regular oil change.. so it really the car for common man."

"We bought this car for my wife 6 years ago when it had 56K miles. She rolled over 200K a few weeks ago and the car has been flawless. The automatic transmission and the engine are both original and have only required normal maintenance. The A/C and sunroof still work as well. The suspension (wishbone) is very capable with spring/shock upgrades, or you can leave it alone and have a nice ride. It will be hard to let this car go later this year. So hard, in fact, that we may keep it as a 3rd car. Overall, this Civic has aged very well and still doesn't look outdated 10 years later."

"I bought my 99 Si w/ 126K around 05/08 and now in 11/09, it has about 153K. Must've been well taken care of in the past since it's a NY car and has taken some salt baths in the winter and yet has no rust. I've only done minor maintanence and repairs ($180 for O2 sensor was the most expensive part). This isn't the most comfortable for long highway trips, but for the amount of power, 34-36mpg is very nice. The drawback is, it takes premium gas. I love the clutch and shifter; quick or slow when you want either. For such a small motor, this thing will get up and go in a hurry. I've only driven it hard a handful of times, but I know it doesn't take long to exceed 100mph...although, once you leave 3rd around 80-85, 4th kind of bogs down at high speeds. Handling is very sharp and easy, but it tends to lean excessivly around long curves. Still runs very nice at near 153K."

"I had my Civic LX 5-speed for five years before it was stolen and it was a wonderful car. I bought it with over 40,000 miles and at the end it had 125,000. It was gone before its time. The biggest repair I had to make was the catalytic converter. The only draw back is that a lot of people steal the cars for parts to trick them out."

"I bought my civic LX new and had 143000 miles on it. I had regular oil changes done, had the timing belt replaced, new brakes once and two tune ups done. I had planned to drive it to 400,000 miles. Unfortunately, I was involved in an accident and my Honda was totaled. I T-boned a car (not my fault) at 50+ mph. I have a wrist fracture and a very sore chest from the seat belt and airbags, but I'm OK. I averaged 40 mpg on the highway. Looking for another Honda replacement now."

"In a few days (June 22nd) we will celebrate the ninth anniversary of owning our 1999 Honda Civic. It has been - knock on wood - a most reliable vehicle. Thus far, as we approach its 9th birthday, it has 135,000 miles and has only required basic maintenance (oil changes, new tires and brakes, windshield wipers, etc.) Recently, we noticed that the exhaust system has been seeking some attention and perhaps that soon will need to be replaced. My wife is the primary driver, traveling 50 miles round trip each day to work on I-87 between Ballston Lake and Albany, NY. She averages between 38 and 40 miles to the gallon. The only issue that I have is that I am 6'2 and with the sunroof closed, it is a tight fit. Also, when a large semi passes on the highway, it can be "shake, rattle and roll" time. Otherwise, it has been and continues to be a great car."

"I have had no problems with my car (the current year being 2008). I did the recommended 140,000 km service (water pump and timing belt) which is $800, but I've heard that its better to get that done then to have problems down the road. All in all it has just been a great car and I am very sad to sell it, but I need a bigger vehicle for my growing family."

"i have owned only hondas, from the CRX to my most current Prelude and the '99 civic ex is by far the worst one yet and isnt the least bit fun to drive.before you purchase, consider the area you live in...i am from Los Angeles and if you dont drive a BMW/Mercedes then your driving a Suburban size vehicle which dominate the road/freeways and basically will dismiss you and your vehicle as a lawn mower putting along...its a honda so reliablity and gas efficiency come hand'n'hand with most purchases but if you MUST own a '99 civic you may as well get the Si...the speed and agility are there whether you use it or not.its better to have a choice than to just be stuck at 127hp behind the wheel of a vehicle that doesnt know the meaning of torque."

"Own my 1999 Civc SI for about 8 years now, but I am still saying "WOW" from the power this little car has. Even though it is only a 4 cylinder this car does have a great hidden power, which is the V-tec. LOVE THIS CAR! Thinking about the 2007 SI now, but would still have my 99 SI sit in my garage! Honda has always have it, the looks, power, saving $$$ on gas, and most of all, honda is most out standing RELIABLE!"
